c5-6 incomplete,6 yrs post

ive had sores on my ischials for about 4 mnths and they just closed about 2 wks ago.im still hvng pain that feels like sitting on razor blades an is literally driving me insane and has almost broken my will. used to take 200 mgs of lyrica 3xday, upped to 300 3x day-no effect. i also take 3 hydrocordones a day 500/325 -no help. i also am on-
12mgs zanaflex 3x day
150mgs effexor
40 celexa
30 adderrall
2mgs lorazepam

i hv baclofen pump and doc advised morphine but i am terrified of that stuff--had it in hospital few times and it drrove me into severe deppresion. i said no narcotics and he said something tha began with a bep maybe and ended with cain. will get name monday[sorry!]. think nurse said dirivitive of novacain.if u know this drug how hv results been? what pain medecine hs had best results in a pump? should i postpone this[my appnmt is this coming wed] and adjust some of my meds?

another major problem is my butt is gone. cant even layon my back at all on bed without my cocyx killing me. i just hv 2 very sharp bones back there. i was 5'10 250--but started swmming 3x wk and dieting[couple lean cuisines/day and a chiken breast] and am currently down to 220 and plan on keeping it up. would turning down my baclofen pump until i had spasms help build my departed ass again? what is the kind of stim that might help? would a standing frame help? if so, how often and how long? any steroids that might help? even if i get the pain under control, i fear it wont be long before i get sores on the end of my spikes![butt] any idea what is best fabric that i could get sewn in the rears of my sweats? would a protein supplement help? do they make u gain weight? any reccommendations to my diet? fes bike is currently out of the question-too exp.-maybe in year or two. i know this is alot of questions but im at the end of my freaking rope+no family to support me. my mother tells me they dont hurt that bad and shes a dang nurse!

i've learned more from this website than all my docs combined[live in sd] and i am soooo thankful that dr young & the rest of u here take the time and effort to make our lives more livable. u all deserve the medal of freedom

Disco I didn't have sores but did have the razor blade problem on my left cheek. After going nuts for 6 months because I figured the doc's answer would be drugs that would fog me out I caved. But my doc said how about accupuncture????!!! I wait till I'm dying for morphine or stronger and he wants me to try some mumbo jumbo? Well, it worked. The first 20 minute session worked for 3 straight days. Took about 6 sessions but I rarely have the razor blade come back for more than an occasional couple of hours.

I do find that drugs like Zanaflex and oxycodone take away the muscles I do have and makes pressure reliefs more difficult. Any chance of a doc trying accupuncture and then maybe try outpatient PT to help build up some muscles that you might have in the area?

A change in seating will probably help more than padded pants. If you have a Jay you can get extra small pads to put under the original gel pad in the butt bone areas. Their cheap to free depending on your dealer.

Tell Mom she needs to attend a CME class in neuropathic pain.

In my search to relieve my central pain, which is exactly what you guys are describing, I've tried 900 mg of Neurontin three times a day(messed up my memory), Percocet's(still take those but more for back pain been central pain), Xanax(to deal with the anxiety that the pain brought and it actually helped with the pain), OxyContin which didn't do anything, and Zanaflex orally, and I've had diladid, clonidine, morphine and the worst, Prialt (stay the hell away from that) in my pump. The Dilaudid messed my testosterone levels up and I gained tons of weight, the Prialt made my pain worse, turned me into an asshole and severely disrupted my memory (there were points when I was on that that it didn't even know what year was, and I'm not the only one that happened to) and in the end, none of them really worked. I'd say the best things I did for the pain was quit smoking, got really careful with what I eat and just plain learned to live with it, although it does have its moments sometimes, especially if there is something else going on in my body.
Good luck on your quest to relieve the pain. I know of several people that smoke marijuana to get rid of it. For me, it kind of amplifies it and makes my hands feel spongy so it's hard to push... LOL, but it may work for you.

Doc probably said bupivicaine. It's related to lidocaine.

Rybread,

Once again, I wish to thank you for your cautions about Prialt. I for one was selling things and saving money to try the very expensive stuff, even as you first posted.

I figure by being the guinea pig, you saved me a bundle, huge disappointment, a big hassle, and having to tell a doctor that what he did was not effective. Sorry it didn't work for you.

I'm really glad you took my advice and didn't even try it. Some people have reported not having all the symptoms I did but didn't have any relief in their central pain. But like I say, if you take care of yourself and take the occasional Xanax, you may be much better off.
