How many people take the day off when there is a lot of snow? I got up this morning at 8am and there ws no snow at all. I did the bathroom than and came out and looked outside around 9am. There was at least 1" of snow and the roads were covered. I tried to drive to work and wasn't more then a mile from my house and turned back. It's about 50 miles to where I work and it's in the city. The roads were very slippery and we are expecting 8-10" by the end of the day, so I called in and told my boss that I wasn't doing it and I'm playing my Handicap card. He laughed and said it wasn't a problem, then said it was about time I played that card. He said he never heard me say that in the 4 years that I have worked there. I felt bad in a way for saying that, but feel better that I didn't try saying I had car troubles or was sick. Don't get me wrong, I very rarley call in sick or have car troubles. I have called in because there was to much snow and I couldn't get out of my apartment. This is the first time I called in because we are expecting a lot of snow.
I hate the snow and trying to get around in it. Last year the parking lot wasn't plowed and I fell out of my chair because of it. I sat in the snow for 15 minutes before I got helped.
If you do call in because of the snow, how bad does it have to be before you decide you are not going out in it? This question isn't for you lucky ones that get to work at home.
