Hi Mimi,
Fever? Red or pink area of the skin that feels warmer than the rest of your shoulder area? I don't know what sort of access you have to this sort of thing, but a quick white blood cell count could tell you a lot if it is elevated.

What is causing you to worry about an infection? I only ask b/c I am more likely to consider injury/overuse. ie something in the muscles or the joints. How much use do you have in your shoulders? (Not entirely sure what c 5-6 entails)

don't know why i immediately thought infection.
neway, i don't think it's muscle pain. prolly from over/improper use.
i have full use of my shoulders.
don't know what to do
Looking at the pic from your avatar, looks like you are putting too much pressure on that shoulder.:D
Hope it gets better!

Mimi, you might want to try some hot packs on your shoulders for comfort sake, unless you think the area is swollen, in which case go for a cold pack.

mimin,
Can you describe the pain?
Is it only when you move your shoulder or is it a constant sort of aching?
Does your shoulder have complete ROM?
Can you hear any crackling when you move it?
Does the pain radiate to your neck or further down your arm?
Best to find out the why then figure out treatment options.

I'm a c4-5 quad and have shoulder pain too. It's so bad I never wear shirts. When I do wear shirts it kills me for an hour or so until I get use to it. Most of the time I just live with the pain. Just wondering if it gets better if you over stimulate it? i.e. massaging or rubbing it

Wow, James, that's extreme! Sounds like neuropain though. I don't find that massage helps, personally.
