i'll try to make a long story short....my husband was injured 9/14/06. his injury is t-7 complete. he hasn't had any return of sensation in the past year and two months. for quite some time he has been in alot of pain. he might have a good day and get up and roll around a bit but when he does that he's out for the next 4 or 5 days laying in bed. he says he's sore and his back is hurting. he had an mri this morning. (i have been trying to figure out what kind of doctor to take him to regarding all this...his gp hasn't helped much and a pain specialist didn't do any good) the results from the doctor he went to today says "722.71 THORACIC DISC HERNIATION. IM A PROPOSING A T2-L1 POSTERIOR SPINAL FUSION WITH REMOVAL OF HARDWARE."
i guess my question is has anyone else with an sci had a herniated disc and was it the cause of pain? i'm really scared about him going back in for surgery on his back (he has two rods already i believe from t-10 to t-4). but he just wants the pain to go away. he is taking so much medication right now (lorcet, soma, xanax, cymbalta, ditropan, gabapentin, baclofen) and he is a zombie a lot of times. we both just want him to get better so he can get back to living his life. literally he's in bed 5-6 days a week. i would like to get a second opinion, but if he really does need surgery, i need to save all the money i can for that. if anyone is familiar with this, please give me some feedback. i was even wondering if he should just go to a neurologist.
