I use Limewire Pro to download music. I need to know how to import it into iTunes so I can load it to a iPod. Thanks

You should be able to find the folder with the MP3s and drag and drop them directly into iTunes.

Yup, worked like a champ, thanks Dan. :)

Ok, maybe I spoke too early. The file will drop in iTunes, but there are random exclamation points besides random songs now. I have dropped 2 songs and there are 18 exclamations!!! What do they mean?

Le Type Français
10-02-2007, 02:31 AM
The exclamations mean the song has been moved into another folder or been deleted. Thus the songs cannot be found or no longer exist. Just locate the song in its folder within iTunes and the program will recognize the file again.

Even if the box is still checked? Any ideas on why my dragging/dropping from my files are causing this?

Are there "special" characters in the filename or path?

Jeff,

Instead of dragging and droppping do the following:
go to Tools Then options in lime wire pro
then go to Player, make sure the Use Limewire media player is unchecked.

Then make sure iTunes is the default player for mp3/audio files.

Now when a download is finished just double click the song in Limewire and it will automatically open up iTunes and play the song, once this happens the song is automatically added to your iTunes libarary.

an alternative method is to go into iTunes and click File/Add Folder to Library, then just find out where Limewire is storing all the downloaded files and point iTunes to this directory. That way anytime you download a file, iTunes will automatically update its library based on the directory you pointed it to.

My iTunes stores my downloaded songs in the following directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Shared

<user> being whatever your user name is on windows, mine is Mr. Coffee
C:\Documents and Settings\Mr.Coffee\Shared

The box being checked has nothing to do that. The checks are for syncing your iPod with songs if you option to only have checked items on your iPod.

My only guess as to why your files are moving is that iPod moves your songs in its designated folder if you've chosen for iTunes to organize your music files.

iTunes is a smart bastard and if you've optioned to have it do a lot for you (not manually), you're going to notice it keeps things meticulously.

Just open up a new folder in my documents,Then drag the downloads into that folder from limewire, open up the downloaded songs once they are in the folder. Then you wont have any problems. Make sure you dont open the download before you put them in the folder or you'll get the exclamation mark the next time you want to play it.

It's actually much easier than that. If you open limewire, click on the tab that says library then there is a little file card located at the lower right hand corner of the library window that says explore. Click on explore and it will open all of the songs that you have downloaded from Limewire. Right click on the songs individually and choose open with...and choose iTunes and viola! they are now in your iTunes library.

Be careful with Limewire. A lot of hacky shit happened when it was on my computer.

Thanks to all who replied. I actually just got finished. I deleted the corrupted iTunes library as I couldn't get the exclamations to go away. I then found the folder on my comp where the songs were and clicked on each one and repopulated iTunes.

quadcna, that's how I did it many months ago and couldn't figure it out. Thanks for the reminder.

some poor woman just got a quarter million dollar judgment against her for downloading 24 songs from Kasaa. my son uses lime wire. any of you guys nervous about using it? I get him to not share the files that he downloads, but I suspect they have some way to find you anyway. I also feel some guilt over using it.

Funny enough, ALL Peer to Peer programs show your IP plainly out there for all to see.

Just don't share the files you download.

I also use Limewire to download music, but stick to bittorrent for anything else.

Todd you might have downloaded a music file thinking it was a music file but if its <2,000 kb it probably isn't.

Limewire itself doesn't implant viruses or torjans, it could give you malware or spyware though but nothing that would destroy your system and is easily removed. The files you download off limewire will contain viruses/trojans that could damanage your system but so can the files of any other P2P software.

And on the Wikipedia page about Limewire is this -

On September 7, 2007, Gregory Thomas Kopiloff of Seattle was arrested in what the U.S. Justice Department described as its first case against someone accused of using file-sharing computer programs to commit identity theft. According to federal prosecutors, Kopiloff used Limewire to troll other people's computers for financial information and then using it to obtain credit cards for an online shopping spree, federal prosecutors said Thursday

I haven't got any personal experience with Limewire. In what way is it harder to find music on Soulseek? Do you mean the search function, or just what music is available?

Sometimes after using Soulseek, and running a scan, spyware has been found...I presume that's where it's come from. But it does seem pretty safe compared to a lot of p2ps.

I've tended to use it for albums that are not available in the UK.

Freaky shit would occur when I used it. Like for example, I had deleted Limewire off of my computer and some time later when I opened my iTunes, an entire list of songs appeared in a Limewire folder as if I had downloaded them. It's like someone's Limewire list found its way onto my computer. Reading the porn titles this person watched was funny, but I found the entire incident bizarre and I completely re-installed my OS.

I just meant that less people know about soulseek an less people=less music. the bright side is the people that do have that have quality rips in that your more likely to get the .mp3 in vbr rather then be limited to 128 or 192kb which is great for music snobs like myself...

it's all about resources. try foobar ( http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Foobar2000 ). light weight and completely customizable. itunes is just packed with unnecessary stuff... i will never install itunes on my computer :/

//. also the new winamp isnt too bad. give it a shot. nothing has changed organizationally that i can see though.

OK, I have a music-related question I didn't want to start a new thread for, so I thought it'd be ok to put it here. :)

Guys, do any of you know of a program which can put tracknames/artists on to home made cds?
I once made a compilation disc for a friend, and he asked how I had put the song info on the disc. It seems my bf had somehow got this program (or whatever it was) on our computer, but then it seemed to vanish, and he still doesn't know how or why it came and went.

I like the idea of a disc I make for someone else to have all this info, instead of just "unknown artist" "unknown track" when they put it into their computer.

You can manually do it in programs like realplayer, by editing the clip info.. However, most programs that ripp CDs usually do it before they're ripped.

Itunes has all that info, then when you burn it it disappears. You can edit it back in in Windows Media Player.

Open the files in realplayer.. Then right click the song in the "Now Playing" list and there is a "Edit Clip Info" and you can type it all there.

Ohhh - I'm fine with ripping cds - the info comes up fine on Windows Media Player.
It's getting the info on to cds that I burn for other people that's the problem.
