I am running Win XP Professional ... all updates installed.

There is something wrong with my audio ... (but only part of it)

What works ...
I can use iTUNES ... everything works ...
I can use Windows Media 11 ... everything works
I can use Real Audio .. everything works

I have uninstalled and installed my audio drivers ... many times

What is NOT happening ...
When running MSN Live Messenger I do not get any audio notification of a reply
When I log onto my computer I do not get the usual Mr. Softie audio tune when booting up

Any thoughts on what I might try ... it isn't critical it just drives me crazy because I can't let it go!

HELP ... becoming OCDDDDDDD on this.

Have you checked the sound levels for all devices?

double click the speaker Icon, and check if all outputs are unmuted, and volume is up.

Hi William,

In the XP Control Panel there's an icon for "Sounds and Audio Devices". Two click on that, then once on the "Sounds" tab. Do you have a "sound" associated with "Start Windows"? A speaker-like icon should be next to "Start Windows".

You'll have to scroll down the rather long list to find the "Start Windows" sound feature.

Just a thought.

Bob.

It seems to me your preferences in MSN Messenger need to be corrected. If that's the only program not delivering sound, go to MSN Messnger's Tools, then options, then Alerts and Sounds. Check to see they're all checked.

As for Windows not making a sound when logging in, you may have also turned that off as well. Are your other Windows sounds on?
