Is this for cutting pictures? What is is called? I have Vista, and have just gone to look in Accessories, and I can't find anything like this...

There is a utility called "Printkey" that works great - I use it constantly for defect tracking.
Download from internet.

No, it's not a cropper. It takes a mirrored image of what's on your monitor or specific window and puts in photo format file. Let me know if you still have trouble finding it. Let me tell you: if you don't see it in your folder, you may have disabled PC Tablet functions and if so, you probably disabled the Snipping Tool while doing it.
Thanks porchdog and Todd.
Just double-checked, and it's definitely not there. :(
I must have disabled it somehow. How can I get it back again...or have I lost it for good?

No, go to Control Panel, then to Turn Windows features on or off, then look for Tablet PC Components and make sure it's checked.
Ok, I've just been to turn Windows features on or off...and there's no sign of Tablet PC Components. Does that mean I don't have it at all?
I'm useless at this kind of thing!

That may be the case, Karen. Perhaps the UK version lacks some features. Is it the Home Premium version?
It say Vista Basic on the sticker on my laptop...I'm guessing that's not as good as Premium. :o

Thats exactly why.... The real question is: Why did they make Vista Basic?
Pah. No snipping tool for me then.

Ah! That's the reason, Karen. You need at least Vista Home Premium for the features like Aero and the Snipping Tool.
I'm not even going to ask what "Aero" is (ignorance is bliss...when it's something my lowly Vista Basic doesn't have, anyway). :)

I don't use Aero. It's visually fun but its functionality is mute.
Aero Glass is a hog (better to leave it off) when it comes to battery life and laptops.
Hmm, glad I don't have Aero then...whatever it is. :o
PN, I never use the laptop battery - always mains. I get too worried about a battery exploding after seeing stories about it happening (even though I know it was certain types of battery).
Also, I think I'd get very angry if the battery started running low if I was in the middle of something, heh.

Karen,
This is Aero. Basically, it's a rolodex of your windows.

all this time I didn't know what that print screen button was. Man I am so computer stupid.
Ah, cheers Todd. :) Hmm, I probably would have no need of Aero then, after all.
Lol @ addiesue! :D Hey, no one's born knowing about the print screen button, right? ;)

sjean - "learnt" and "learned" are both the correct past participles of the verb "to learn". :)

Correct! ;) Personally, I prefer the -ed endings rather than -t past participles. I think they flow better in an already choppy Germanic language.

Todd, thanks for telling us about the snipping tool. Where does it save the files? I tried 'save' and 'save as' and I think that it saved them but I have no idea where. Mike

Mike, by default, it saves them in Pictures. But you must click the Disk icon in order to save what you've snipped.

Thanks - turns out my computer was messing up. I rebooted and now when I click on the disk icon it asks me for a name and location (like you would expect). It's a handy feature - I used to use the print screen button and then paste the screen shot into paint to select what I really wanted. Now I can just select the part of the screen that I need. Mike

Thanks guys. I figured someone would have it! I agree Todd, "learned" flows better, Learnt seems just off enough to have made me question it.
^ Possibly "learnt" seems odd because it is an irregular formation, whereas "learned" is regular?
