I recently got a new computer with Vista, but I've always used Dragon. It's been my understanding that built-in speech recognition for Windows has been pretty junky, but has anyone tried out the Vista speech recognition?

I am also very curious about DNS versus Vista SR. I currently use Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9.5, with Windows XP and I do have a Vista machine. I just purchased the Belkin Easy Transfer Table for Windows Vista, last night. I think it's going to be about two weeks before I'm able to mess around with Windows Vista SR.

Take a look at this thread (http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/showthread.php?t=77041&highlight=Microsoft+speech+recognition) and this video (http://on10.net/Blogs/laura/are-you-talking-to-me-no-im-talking-to-my-computer-check-out-this-sweet-voice-recognition-program/) clip on Vista SR.

About three months back, approximately, I went through the Vista SR training process. My USB headset kept failing their hardware test. I had to use a headset with RCA jacks and that did the trick.

I tried the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable and I would say it works as advertised for transferring files and folders. I'm not sure that I will go out on a limb and recommend the Belkin Transfer Cable because it seems to me you can do the same with a CD-R or a DVD-R. I will give the Belkin Transfer Cable one more try.

I didn't buy the cable when I went to Vista, just used a USB external hard drive.

I wasn't aware that the transfer cable would not transfer programs. I thought it was essentially "PC mover software", but apparently not. I would agree that it wasn't a necessary buy.

If you read the Windows Easy Transfer Companion (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=39f724eb-4e37-4be0-adfc-786786e73e50&displaylang=en) you get the impression that you may be able to transfer programs. The Windows Easy Transfer Companion is Beta.
