Assistant Professor
University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering
The Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering (IBBME) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a five-year contractually limited term appointment at the Assistant Professor level beginning March 3, 2008, or as soon as possible thereafter (with a five year renewal option). The successful applicant will have a PhD in the area of rehabilitation or neural engineering, excellent teaching skills, a strong background in his or her discipline and demonstrated success at collaborative research at the interface between engineering and rehabilitation science.
The individual will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level and initiate and maintain an independent research program of international calibre in Rehabilitation Engineering (for example, treatment of patients with stroke or spinal cord injury, development of assistive technology applicable to a wide range of patient ages) or clinical applications of Neural Engineering (e.g. brain machine interfaces, spinal cord and central nervous system circuitry mapping, neuronal plasticity). The successful applicant will be cross-appointed to a relevant teaching hospital in Toronto (e.g. Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, Bloorview Kids Rehab) and will benefit from the rich collaborative environment in Toronto in the Rehabilitation sector. Ideally, the research program of the successful candidate will complement ongoing research in Rehabilitation Engineering being carried out at the University of Toronto. Salary to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
