Stomach bloating continues...

I can't seem to understand what is causing the bloating. When I was in the hospital and at inpatient rehab the bloating was really bad but I assumed it was due to lack of exercise and I also had a hard time burping. The bloating starts up high below the sternum and it feels hard.
I find myself pushing in on my stomach to get a relief from the outward pressure. Whenever I have problems burping I tend to do the same by repeatedly pumping on to my stomach and helps me burp.
I have cut down on sodas and on certain foods and it doesnt seem to do. Is there anything out there I should try or take? (herbs/supplements) Or should I continue with my diet and could just be a matter of time?
Could there be something wrong with my digestive system? Could there be internal swelling or spasms that causes the bloating even though my spasms have basically diminished.
Please do help cuz its very uncomfortable.

oscdude, it sometimes help to take antacids that contain simethicone (a chemical that breaks up bubbles). You need to have your gallbladder evaluated if you continue to have trouble. Wise.

Stomach gas is often due to air-swallowing too.
Do you drink with a straw? This can make this worse. It would agree with trying the simethicone. You can get simethicone tablet so you don't have to take the rest of the antiacid ingredients.

I always use a straw when drinking. I had no idea it could cause this type of problem.

I have the same problem. Sometimes it goes away but I always seem to have gas in my stomach. I breath and you can hear the gas in my stomach. Sometimes I have to dry heave every now and then. I want to try those pills mentioned. Just letting you know that your not the only one.

OsC - One of my local sci brethren, a C6 quad injured 5yrs, had a lot of the symptoms you describe.

He went to the doc and was prescribed Nexium.

Its helped him tremendously.

I went to Wallgreens and bought GasAid with Simethicone. I drank one pill this morning, I will continue taking it and will let you guys know how it turns out. Thanks a lot you guys.

SCI nurse, I have been having this problem lately. It also effects my breathing capacity but when I burp my breathing becomes much better but there are times that I cannot burp at all what seems to effect my diaphragm for some reason. At times I will feel a big bubble coming up my esophagus then I finally let it out and my breathing returns to normal. I am on previcid right now, would that prevent gas? Should I take an antacid? Or is there something else out there?

Try either simethecone tablets or an antacid with simethecone if you think your gas/bloating is coming more from your stomach than from your intestines. Intestinal gas is better treated with something like medicinal charcoal tablets.

Stomach bloating can also be caused by drinking from a straw, as it causes more air swallowing than does drinking from a cup.

How do they evaluate your gallbladder?
