Mike C,

The multiscreen option has been available on the Mac for over a decade. All Macs allow you to connect multiple monitors. The system software assigns video real-estate to all connected monitors contiguously. A powerbook for example can easily control two contiguous screens. You can add a card for a third monitor, probably for less than $150. It is relatively inexpensive to buy and surround yourself with flatscreen monitors. For example, you can now buy two 17-inch flat screens for about than $1200, arrange the screens on either side of your main screen. So, for substantially less than $3800, you can achieve the same thing.
