I just finished reading the lengthy discussion on running a Windows operating system on a Mac but I was wondering how other people have fared with Mac's built-in voice recognition system??

I switched to PC after injury mainly because Dragon NaturallySpeaking And was told that was the only way to go... but slowly my patience has been tested with the Windows system, worms, corrupt files and all sorts of other infections.....along w/nuance and window restore fcts.

I only use DNS for word processing/dictation and was wondering if pewople have found I-listen to be comparable? are there other accessibility features on a Mac that make it a more accessible machine than a PC???

I know from previously using a Mac w/ Photoshop/and other design software that the shortcuts are easier and streamlined.... any recommendations or cautions from switching back to Mac?>?

Thanks ;)

Chaz, I say go for it, since you don't need Dragon to control your computer. I hear iListen is comparable to Dragon for dictation/word processing, and since you were a Mac user before, you'll find the current Macs easy to transition to. I have a feeling any frustrations you might have with iListen compared to Dragon will be greatly overshadowed by your satisfaction with Mac OSX. And when OSX Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) comes out--wow!

scorp- thx. Good to know about I listen. I just checked out the preview to Leopard and I think it will be well worth the wait for its release and the switch back. Also -- in terms of design, the creative suite price is unbeatable... Photoshop/illustrator/Dreamweaver/ect 4 $600....I'm still playing with Photoshop 6 and I'm curious about the new features. I'll keep saving my pennies ;)

I prefer mac for sure but for apps side more than accessibility. Macs really are made for people with hands who can use a mouse... I use a mouthstick, cant use hands at all.

Wasn't fussed on apple's voice commands- they only work with a handful of [mostly Apple's] apps. iListen is a bit lame- not as tweaked as all mac apps should be. I use Dragon on my PC laptop for essays and big-typings.

Be sure to check out quicksilver (http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/). It's an app launcher, everything-launcher... Definately the best thing i ever did was get a mac and get quicksilver. Some good demo's here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5cnTxnDtEY&mode=related&search=) check em out.

When it comes to keyboard-only access to menu bars and tabs etc, OS X sorta falls short of XP... I'm hoping Leopard will have a full overhaul... gotta wait til October now though. But in the end, it's up to the developers of 3rd party apps whether they want to include accessibility features- and most won't..
