View Full Version : Tomorrow the casts come off....
MY ds has his casts off tomorrow after 4 weeks. He had tendon transfers done and we will begin the rehab process. So far, even with casts on , he is able to move his fingers and we hope the pinch of the thumb will be there......a long wait and a long rehab but all worth if if it takes! Wish him well!

I've had two tendon transfers on my left arm/hand/wrist ... well remember those cast coming off days.
The best to your son. :)
Thanks so much. It is such a waiting game to see the outcome! I see his anxiety rising in the last few days. I have all the hope the outcome will be as expected.

Who did the surgery? Did you have the electrical implants as well? Best wishes for improved use of your hands.

Cathy J, check your email for my reply:)
my son had his surgery done at Shriners Childrens Hospital in Philly by Dr. Scott Kozin. He had bilateral bicept to tricept transfers to give him elbow extension and bilateral pinch and grasp. We can already see him move his fingers and will have to wait for the next few weeks to see the overall function.. The doc said he will be able to improve his functional world by 600% if all goes well! This SCI is SUCH a waiting game!

What is his level of injury? Age? His prognosis sounds very encouraging. I'm so happy for both of you.
he is a c5/6. he is doing so great already...4 days after the casts off. Moving fingers to grasp and great pinch. his arm is only allowed to move 15 degrees a week and it is moving!
