View Full Version : Hip Pain...please help

I'm looking for some words of wisdom on what could be causing this tremendous pain I'm having in my hip region...
The pain seems to be mostly on the front of my left hip around the hip flexor area and if goes all the way to my inner groin...I'm also experiencing a general tingle/numbness around the entire surrounding area from the side of my hip to mid stomach that isn't normal...One other thing I should mention is that I'm getting a very hot sensation where the pain is, not 'AD hot', but like a burning hot...
It all started on Wednesday...My hip popped quite loudly but there wasn't any pain/AD associated with it and my hip has popped like that before. But by Wednesday evening, I was in agony and I wasn't sure what had happened. I didn't know if it was a slight dislocation, pulled muscle/tendon, or what.
Well, the pain eased up overnight, but by the time I finished rolling around getting ready the following morning the pain was back. I went to the doctor and told him I had hip pain and suspected it was dislocation. The x-ray came back clear and there didn't seem to be any dislocation. My doctor (not my SCI specialist) said there was some hip degeneration (about what I expected) and that it couild be the cause. But this hasn't been a gradual onset of pain, I can pinpoint the day it started so I don't think that's the reason.
I did some searching on the forums and found many others had similar problems concerning hip pain. The nurses and Wise gave out possibilities ranging from dislocations, Charcot hip, to sciatic nerve compression. What do you think I have? Should I go and see my SCI specialist?
I also noticed Wise gave his opinion that it sounded like kidney stones in one of the threads. I should let you know that my dad is notorious for his kidney stones so I know I have a strong chance at having them as well. Maybe go and see the urologist?
Thanks all for any help/advice you can give...I really appreciate it.

Hi Jayday9,
From what you describe, there is a very big chance the you have a Dislocated and / or a Pinched Sciatic Nerve. Those two nerves are doing the problems in your lower back area causing pain all the way down the nerves roots. There is no douth that these nerves must be reset and you should seek an Osteopath for help.
Good Luck

OK I have a question for you. I am an L1 complete para. Is it possible for degeneration and arthritis at L5 S1 to be causing irritation of my sciatic nerve and me be able to feel it. I am experiencing increased burning and pain in my low back and shooting down my legs especially my upper legs. If my SCI is at L1 could I still feel sciatic nerve trouble below the SCI?

Hey Jayday....welcome back.
You can partially dislocate a hip joint. It does not always show up on x-ray. I just went through having an injection for this same problem. It does get worse if you dont fix it.
They injected my hip joint with methotrexate and while I was numb from the injection, they sent me down to a physical therapist who specialized in Manual alignment therapy. He checked my hips and was talking to me when suddenly he jerked and pushed. My hip popped and I felt immediate relief. I have not had any problems since. He did say to be careful that once you do this, you have a tendency to dislocate again.
I would go to a SCI pain clinic. I went to Shepard Center after more than a years worth of pain, doctor visits, and multiple medicines. My regular doctor sent me to several "specialists" who wanted to blame it on my SCI and degeneration. I am glad I kept dismissing my "specialists" opinions.....
Good luck....I hope you feel better soon.

If you are having trouble between your L1 to S1 areas, It is mostly possible that you sciatic nerves are being either pinched or dislocated. Resetting your sciatic nerves is eminent and must be done soonest. The sciatic nerves start in your lower back, goes to your hip areas, the groin areas, on ech side of your upper legs, around your lower knees in the inside and on the outside down to your under foot area. Once this is done, special type of lower back exercises are needed to strengthen it so that this does not occure again.
Good Luck

You really do not understand the concept of having a spinal cord injury. Very few people with this injury can exercise lower back muscles. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about and you are not helping by giving misleading information. :nono:

Agreed with your post, GinaMarie.
Painlessjoe, we're spinal cord injured here. That's not the same as a person with a piched nerve or some kind of back pain from heavy lifting.
We're. Spinal. Cord. Injured. Yes, broken backs and necks resulting in paralysis and a myriad of other issues.
I'd go three kinds of crazy before I'd let a chiropractor near my spine or body in general. Try to pop, crack and adjust our bods and you could further injure us.
Learn who you're preaching to before you recommend "exercises" and adjustments. Most of us cannot do leg exercises or abdominal exercises. Some among our ranks can do no exercises. Some among us breathe only with the assistance of vents.
You apparently believe us to be far more able-bodied than we are.
If you're looking to drum up business, you'll probably do better at a far different site. We are spinal cord injured, not people with temporarily injured backs and hips in need of a minor fine tuning.

It is obvious that some of you would like to just wind and complaint. So be it.
Have a nice day

Ok, even I did some backtracking to painlessjoe's posts...
Funny, he can give professional medical advice to two different people both of which he has never laid eyes on to my knowledge, and the advice is the VERY same words...
Something does not add up...
