I currently break my chair down and throw it in the car with me. The only mod to my car is the hand controls. I like it that way, nice and simple. The only problem is I am really wanting to get a power assist for school. That is a whole dif topic....anyhow, so breaking it down may no longer be a reasonable option for me. What are all my options go as far as truck modifications, lifts, etc. I'd like to keep it as aesthetically pleasing as possible. pictures, links, personal input...all is welcome. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Amanda, I'm building a lift for myself for my truck. After I get everything working the way it should I hope to be able to build them and sell them to everybody that wants to drive a truck or SUV!

Tigger - will your lift fit in a Wrangler?

Scot if your jeep has roll bar in it this lift can be fitted to it. It works by building a roll cage inside the truck, car or SUV. Give me sometime to finish mine and get all of the things work out for building them and selling them. The 1 I'm building now is on my 87 chevy 4x4 with a 4 inch lift kit with 33 x 12.50. Soon as I get it built I'll show you some pitcures. This lift will work real good for jeeps. There is no lifting or transfering with this lift. It does all the work.

sounds interesting Tigger... definitely keep me posted.

I have a Jeep being worked on right now... we're fabbing an entire new cage to beef things up, as well as to accommodate a WC lift in the rear. I've got a 4" suspension + 1.25" BL going in to run 35s. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Scot I wish I was set up because I could save you lots of money and fabbing on your jeep. I will keep you posted.

Tigger - I've got good connections & the fab work will serve purposes for safety & offroad use too. I'd likely fab a new cage even if I didn't need the lift in the rear. The money involved is well worth it when safety & benefits are weighed into the equation. Plus, I use a powerchair part of the time, so I wanted to accommodate that. Thanks. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Amanda - I've got a wheelchair lift in the rear. The type of suspension used plays a role in how this works too. I can't say much more yet... but this rig is gonna be cool. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

Scott- are you incomplete enough where you can get into the driver's seat with ease? My mom has a jeep wrangler and getting in that thing is a bitch. I'm not sure I could do it by myself. Although having the bars up top to grab are so great to pull up on.

functionally I'm around C7, nothing more except for weak upper abs... my incomplete status is mostly due to sensation.

let me get this thing finished (I anticipate a few weeks) & I'll put up a site about it. I haven't even driven it yet.

but yes, we're making it easy to get into the driver's seat... it'll be a near-level transfer if all works out as planned.

First person lifted with my lift!!!!! After my buddy got it wired he took it for a ride. It lifted him right into the drivers seat with no problems. He weights about 250 lbs and it had no problem doing it. I'm going to try it tonight!

Amanda - you can also check out: www.bruno.com/tundra.htm (http://www.bruno.com/tundra.htm)

This is the set up I've got on my '03 Tundra.

Tigger- yey! let us know how it goes...and get some pics! I'm interested to see this new project of your's.

Chris-yea, that is the setup I have researched on prices and whatnot. I love the way it is setup, the sleek appearance, and all. But, it can be pretty darn pricey. So, until I come into some major dough I'm gonna haveta wait a lil while. So, your's is on a Tundra, like the one in the pic? Did everything work out OK, as far as sizing with the seat, the camper shell, etc.?

Amanda, you're right it can get pricey. My set-up added an additional $10k (TAS seat and crane) to the vehicle.

Yes, '03 red Tundra limited. No camper shell though. I don't like the look, extra expense, maintenance, etc. I'll post a picture soon.
Even in the rain without the shell, driving to Chicago recently my chair didn't get that wet (I store the cushion in the back seat). Plus, in Colorado, it doesn't rain much at all.

Yes, sizing (details important via Bruno dealer)) and all worked out well. But even though the Toyota is rated as a "full size" cab its not as big as Ford, Chevy, GMC, Dodge. At 6'0" tall with pretty long legs the Tundra took a little getting used too. Its no big deal now but I probably would've went american design if I knew then what I know now.

Maybe next time... http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif

Good luck Amanda http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

tigger i would love to see the lift you're building. maybe i could get one for my 86 f250 that i'm building. if it will work on a lifted truck, that would be great! i was planning on putting a lift on it before my accident. now i'm waiting on an automatic transmission so i can drive it. we were thinking about adding a roll cage so we could put grab handles on it so i could get in easier, but we decided that would tear up my shoulders. here's a pic:

(Please be sure photos attached here are no larger than 600 X 400 pixels. KLD)

hey tigger, i was checking to see if you got your lift working yet. how did it go? when you gonna post some info and pic's on it? I'm getting excited thinking there might be a lift for me to put in my truck. i found an auto tranny to put in my truck, now all i need is to figure out the lift(and maybe that blank area where the bed should go, LOL ). can't wait to see it.

and scott, can't wait to see your jeep. i had wanted a jeep but couldn't figure out a feasable way for me to have one since my accident. i'd like to see how yours is set up.

Thanks JD,

It's coming... just slower than anticipated. The company who makes the suspension got a runaround with a couple important parts, so all that stuff didn't ship until yesterday morning. This is impacting the entire project for various reasons, but things should pick up pace this week. Stay tuned. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

LOL, I've been to busy holding hands to try mine out! I've got all the stuff now to try it! I will try it this weekend and let you know. I still have some redsigning before going in production. I can't show any pictures yet. It will work on your Ford truck so don't sell it. I'll post more later this weekend!

I tried my lift out and it worked really well! I do need to make a few more adjustment before being ready for production.

about when can you show us this invention. i'm getting antsy. can't wait to drive my truck. it will probably be the nicest pickup in school in my opinion (of course, anything i can drive looks perty dern good to me LOL)

my dad had a good idea for building one. he said we could fab a roll cage for something to mount it to, and use an electric camper jack shortened just a little to fit in the cab. then, we could make the truck about as high as we want it, and we know that a camper jack can lift quite a bit, at least four feet or more. but, plans could change. just us brainstorming.

Hey Scott,
Dan has the Bruno Turney Caroney seat, with a curb sider lift in his F250 super duty. We love it! We were blessed to have the insurance company pay for it. It is quite pricey....with the cap to cover the lift it was over 14k. Tigg, you go!
