I getting a gaming console for my hubby(T11) who has never played any games. Which unit would be good for a newbie?
Thanks for any help!

Everything I have heard leads me to believe that the Nintendo Wii was the winning gaming console for 2006. The Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 will allow you to watch high-def movies, if this is important to you. The Xbox 360 plays HD DVDs, but the box is noticeably noisy. The PlayStation 3 will play Blu-Ray DVDs and there is no noise factor. You may also want to go into a Best Buy or Circuit City and demo these games before you buy.
i would go with PS2. i think its a buck and a half now. so many games to play you will go crazy picking the ones you like out. be a great setup for just starting out. PS3 to much now. :(
Microsoft is extending (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6173633.html?sid=6173633&part=rss&subj=6173633) a three-year warranty to the Xbox 360 because of a 30% failure (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gaming/xbox-360-failure-rate-30-says-retailers-271487.php) rate.

Nintendo aims most of their games towards children. PS2 or PS3 would be a better bet for an adult man.

Got my PS2 for $129. I totally agree, there are so many great games out there for the PS2 at this point, it would take years to play through them all. Why buy a PS3 even with the recent price drop? BluRay? Meh.

I agree with Zero. Wait a year or two until a nice price drop for the PS3. Get a PS2 for now, especially for a newbie.

The real important thing is to pick the right games. Check online sites that rate games, do some research. I do this for all the games I buy and I'm proud of the quality of my relatively small library. Avoid games based on movies or TV shows for sure!
What kind of games do you think your husband would like? Sports? RPG? Action?

Wouldn't replace my XBOX360 for anything! Most of the best titles have been on the XBOX360 platform.

for sheer fun, Wii sports beats all others hands down. Stupid amounts of fund crammed into it....
for a sit down and play game platform, xbox360 for sure

I want to get the Wii when Mario Kart for that system comes out. I've always loved the Mario Karts.

Oh please. Nothing against the 360, I want to get one myself. But the library of good titles available for the PS2 at this point is enormous, and plentiful at GameStop for next to nothing.
Microsoft is putting out 1 bil to repair flaws in the X-box. ouch.

i'd say ps3 or wii
i hear the wii is really fun and can give a minor cardio workout. it also has the virtual console which lets you play old school nes, sega and maybe turbo graphix 16. low power consumption. compact size. currently winning the console war based on units sold. low in supply.
ps3 has some serious hardware in it. it isn't doing so well in the console race because developers are having trouble making good use of the cell. thats bad for now, but good for later. can play most games from ps1 and ps2. doubles as a blu-ray disc player. has 1080p video output. also has a distributed computing software that lets unused processing cycles do protein folding (data crunching for diseases). largest of the 3 consoles and also most energy hungry.
oh you don't care about high definition movies? go watch some of the "planet earth" series.

One billion dollars to Bill Gates is "cigarette money!" Anyway, I say good for Microsoft for admitting and taking responsibility for this problem.

My kids' Mom just got a ps3 for the movies, but they don't have any games to play on it yet. They've downloaded lots of demos though. They've had a Wii since Christmas and they love it. I have a ps2 here and its good enough for me.

they all have their strong points - none of them however can compete with the 360 in regards to online gaming. i'm sorry but that's where the fun is (for me)
i can sit in front of my tv, log in automatically and play with my 8 year old who is 750 miles away.
the graphics are amazing on ps3, but the whole online thing with sony is a joke.
wii looks like a blast, but a real challange controler wise for a c6 IMHO
