I am a C5/6 quad, about two years post injury, with a super pubic catheter. Every now and again my catheter to gets clogged and my bladder is stretched. Often, after these incidents I end up with headaches for days or weeks on end. They are excruciating and make it very hard to function. It isn't too bad while I am up in my chair during the day, but when I get in bed their terrible. Obviously this is being caused by autonomic dysreflexia, but I don't know exactly why they continue for so long. (No, it's not a bladder infection.)
I regularly check my blood pressure and it gets up into the 140/100 or 150/110 range. I use Nitro paste, but this only works temporarily and often does not get rid of the headache completely.
I'm really curious if anyone else has had a similar experience or has any great tips or tricks on how to combat this. Mostly, I feel like I'm five years old again because I'm scared to go to bed.
Thanks,
Justin
