Between Miralax and Magnesiun Citrate. Do they serve the same purpose, work as well and is one better than the other?

Both are osmotic laxatives. This means they work primarily by pulling water from your body into your gut, making the stool more watery.

Here is information on Miralax (polyethylene glycol 3350) (http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic2/polyglyc.htm).

Here is some information on Magnesium citrate (http://www.drugs.com/MTM/magnesium_citrate.html)

Of the two, the latter is stronger and more likely to cause rather explosive accidents. Generally I do not recommend the routine use of any osmotic laxative. They are fine to use for occasional constipation or impaction, but routine use is to be avoided.
