so i decided to try Linux out and downloaded SuSe 10.2. my internet wasnt working until i messed around with it a bit now am able to get online. i'd like to install Yahoo Messenger on this machin and it would probably be a simple task for a linux pro.. however seeing as i am a n00b towards any of this... i would greatly appreciate any help. i tried going to the site and it downloads the executable for Win..
i guess i'll make this simple. How do i install Yahoo Messenger on SuSe 10.2????
Much thanks for any help <333

First you need a Linux version of Yahoo, which i'vve never heard of, but i've never used Yahoo.

There are other programs you can use, Kopete, Or Gaim....
Read this: http://en.opensuse.org/Kopete

Gaim should be pre-installed, you download the program, open the ReadMe.txt and it has all the directions in there if you don't have a system like Mandriva 2007 has. thats waht I use and all you gota do to install somthing is the following

urmpi <filename> and it auto installs the rpm.

For you, i think you have to do a make file and ./
but first you need to open a terminal window or console and type
su

then enter your root password , now your root, cd to wahtever directory the download is in for instance

/home/user/gAIM
if directory gAIM has a readme file

do
cat reademe.txt

that will show you the file and directions or you can do this via GUI

Linux u just have to work with and you wil get better, i recommend using google and google for linux tutorials

thanks for the help.
i found out i do have that kopete prog after all haha. guess i just gotta explore the functions a little more. now if anyone knows how i can share a folder on an ntfs drive in the same box with a windows xp over a network.
i originally had just xp home on this machine and put in a dual boot. id like to share the same folders as before and hopefully run apache server off the linux boot too.
sorry if that made no sense..
thanks for any help

Use Samba.

I don't use it becuase i have 2 harddrive and I can access the 2nd harddrive(NTFS) just like a slave drive but I can't access the linux one with windows, nor can I write to the windows one with linux but I can read/copy
