Is there a good program out that can repair a Windows XP Pro system? It's my kids computer and they have downloaded all kinds of crap. It's virus and spyware free. Or is it better to have a computer shop fix it?
You can do a Windows XP Repair (http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/showthread.php?p=608839#post608839) but you will need the install disk and not the recovery CD. If your computer has been compromised, then it may be better to scorch the earth or reformat the drive and then reinstall Windows XP. I would back-up all your important files and folders and viruses do not generally live in data files. You can try a scan using Housecalls (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/) but if you are not a sophisticated user, then it may be better to take it into the shop.

(run cleaner and issues )
Ad-Aware is a nice tool too http://www.lavasoft.de/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
and spybot search & destroy (free at download.com)
But if the computer is really messed up and restoring it to an earlier date isn't fixing it .... I'd just run the disc and reformat the whole thing.
... and don't reinstall the crappy games and junk your kids installed on it
