hah thats nice of them to hook u up with things that don't work, are you saying, like icons on your toolbar when you place your mouse cursor over them, they high light but a little "tool tip" or message doesn't appear telling you what that little button does? On the start menu?

Example:Im in yahoo mail. the icons down the left side. In Box,draft, sent, etc. there is nothing there to tell me what it is. But when i put the mouse pointer on them it lights up to navigate. Its not only in yahoo mail but every website I go. In the chat rooms you cna see the chatters but you can't see what they are saying. Unfortunately i can take a pic because I took my camera to a party and while were inside it rained real hard. And when we were leaveing I dropped my camera in a water hole and it drowned.

I think I'd run it at the lowest screen resolution I could stand with 256 color and turn every running process off I could get away with. I don't know the specifics on the video card/graphics, but I would not push it very hard since it is a cast off.
It is not well reviewed and people are selling them cheap on eBay or have upgraded them.

change the font colors in windows or IE to the default. it sounds like white text over a white background.

I can see in the picture that the page isn't fully loaded ... if that isn't the problem , it looks like your flash animation isn't working.
Have you run Windows updates ? and Do you have the restore disc ?

It does look like the page is not fully loaded, Jerry. Is this happening outside of Internet Explorer as well?

Looks like pictures are turned off and maybe javascript.
Any anti-spy program or firewall to configure in the popup department?

Hey Jerry,
go to TOOLS>Internet Options....@ SECURITY tab, click DEFAULT
on PROGRAMS tab, click MANAGE ADD-ONS, then ensure EACH one is enabled in the list you may have to check the drop down menu to LOADED and USED to make sure ya got them all you can highlight and UPDATE each one from here also
go to ADVANCED tab and hit restore defaults
this SHOULD eliminate all the common checks to find out what is wrong. If there is STILL a problem, let us know.
You can go back through these SAME settings later and set them how you wish
You can also go to www.opera.com and download a REALL browser and use it instead. It's free and OOOH so much better!
Try it, it's better than a good woman....well, ALMOST. :D
If it is STILL kicking yer butt, PM me your phone number and I'll call you. We'll figure it out one way or the other. I don't have any longdistance charges on weekends so it is no biggy to call.

I echo Capn'Gimp , I was also thinking that if you used Firefox browser, you have to add your own add-ons so it might be a good troubleshooting tool .
IF your font isn't showing throughout your computer (not ONLY IE) then you need to go to Controle panel and fix that.
As far as getting a free laptop , that's pretty nice ... and it seems to browse the internet, so it must not be too messed up.

I wonder if the resolution is cranked.. That page should fit the screen horizontally.

hey Jerry,
can you log on in the Administrator Account? IF it wasn't messed with... the default user is Administrator and leave the password box blank, hit enter
if you are in then you can reset all accounts from control panel. If ya ain't, then say so and I'll post a page that shows you the NEXT way to go. BTW, were you using an account with Administrator priveleges or just a user account?
PS my free long distance is ONLY on weekends, lol ya got me your number 2 late, now we gotta be typists :p
>quoted text follows from another author...<
7. Windows XP Pro:
At the log-in screen, press Ctrl/Alt/Del twice quickly
Type "Administrator" and leave password blank.
Windows XP Home:
Reboot, tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Select Administrator, leave password blank.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.
If you are using Windows XP Pro and have encrypted data, you may permanently lose access to the encrypted data. <<<^^^^+++ u probably have no deep dark secrets hidden so don't sweat this one Jerry
