Dean, they took the diladid out of my pump about 10 months ago. I can't remember how high my dose was but I did have a bit of fun when they took me off of it. For three days I went through detox, hallucinating like crazy. Hallucinations were not scary at all but they did keep the nurses wondering who I was talking to in the room. I don't remember all of it, where most of it feels like a dream at this point but I was told some funny stuff about me. I'll tell you what though, I've lost around 60 pounds since I got off the diladid. So I think it was well worth the three days of hallucinating. Good luck and have fun.:)

well rybresd the doc's said that if i took 7to8 percs 10/325 for 4 to 5 days there would be no withdraw. the bastards wern't even close! iam very close to getting my smith & westen and ending this madness but i won't i have 2 little girls that need this broken dad. so ill suffer the next few day's
my doc said that if i diden't use the pump for pain meds he woudent give me any oral pils to get me over the hump. nice doc

it sounds to me like you need to get a new doctor. my doctor actually had me on the diladid PCA follows coming off of it but I did very little for my detox symptoms. The withdrawal will go away it just takes a few days, at least it did for me. After having that stuff in my pump, nothing really helps much for my pain anymore so I don't even take Percocet's that often, just the occasional Xanax on bad days. But I can think much clearer and remember more and like I said, I lost a lot of weight.

Glad you tallked to your doc, that you're weaning off Dilaudid instead of withdrawing aburptly. It still won't be easy, but shouldn't be as painful as going cold.

Hang in and hang on, Dean.

I hope the new meds work better for you.

Giving Percocet after going cold turkey from diluadid is INSANE! And borders on, if not actually is, malpractice. Completely and totally inappropriate to stop a long term opioid abruptly. Glad to hear you are back on a lower dose, and be sure to slowly, slowly, slowly taper down, it will be a process of weeks, not days. If you do that, you will have alot fewer withdrawal problems.

* shaking my head at the bone headed doctor *

I'm thinking perhaps s/he should try cold turkey withdrawal .... that would drive the point home quite nicely.

thanks for the support.it would be great if they could live and suffer one day in my body.they might not be so quick to brush us off and hear what we say, nobody knows our body or pain buy us.

Dean, I saw an earlier post from you (around 2004??) and gather that you were getting reasonable foot pain releif from lyrica and amytriptaline but had bad anxiety problems- or maybe I was mistaken. I gather from your profile than you almost 7 years down the track. What was your pain just pre op, just post, 12 months etc. Did it get worse even after 4 years? I had a dural arteriovenoous fistula surgically removed 9 months ago and was reasonably pain free just post op, but got worse in the next 6 months and has stabilised around there since.
