After having a spinal cord injury for several years I had been plaqued by constipation which seems to have enlarged my anal opening and made it difficult to totally expell stool. I have been been reasonably successful in eliminating the constipation but I seem to always end up with some stool that is not completely expelled. Is there anything that can be done about this situation? Any surgical approach?

what are using to evacuate it? what is your bowel care program?

Except for occasional constipation I have normal bowel movements not requiring any program.

enemeez or magic bullet would be the first items in this case.
do you do manually removal when you can't get it out?

Have never had to do manual removal. If any residual remains after a BM, I usually just take a shower to clean myself up.

if you have finger dexterity ,the standard way would be to stick your finger in to remove everything within reach.
the problem may be that your stool is too dry and hard.
enemmez would help a lot with this, they contain a stool softener.
i see they are appearing in drugstores in 5 packs now . they work in minutes

Have you tried transanal irrigation? I can't explain it, but maybe the SCI nurse can write something about it or you can search on google. That is the new thing we are taught here if we have trouble.
