I know there are a number of programs out there that will allow you to transfer music off an iPod into a different computer. For anybody who has done this, what program did you use?
I bought Tune Transfer. It worked. Sort of. It transferred most of my songs to my new laptop very quickly and painlessly. The problem is that it created a wacky folder system, leaving my music split up into close to four hundred different folders. It also renamed most of my songs into bogus file names like xbj1d5.mp3. I have close to 8000 audio files on the iPod, so manually renaming them all after they transfer is not an option.
Has anybody here moved a very large music/video/photo collection (close to 60 GB) from one computer to another? I am looking for the easiest/most hands-free method. One option is to clean out iTunes, enable the hard disk file option and move them that way. That is what I will do if I can't find another way. I tried running the iTunes backup and burning DVDs. But that takes forever--it took almost an hour to burn one DVD and would mean getting somebody to switch the DVDs for me. Plus iTunes gave me all sorts of errors about copyright protection and not being able to locate some files. I was going to try to move them by wireless but that is a lot of data to move that way. I would like to find a good program that would move my music, video, and photos. But I would settle for one that would just move the music properly.
To make things just a tad bit more frustrating, iTunes does not want to authorize my new laptop to transfer my purchased files. I don't know if that is a Vista problem or not. Could be. This only accounts for a very small amount of the files, so it isn't that big of a deal. But I am not liking iTunes at the moment.
This isn't a life and death problem :) . But if anybody has any suggestions, I would be very appreciative. Thanks.
