is taking 2 vicodin 5/500 the same as taking a vicodin hp?
The 500 in vicodin is acetaminophen (Tylenol.) Be careful not to take to much of that daily (max dose is 4000 mg. a day, and only for a few days. It's hard on the liver.)

vicodin hp =10mg hydro +660 mgs of acetaminophen

I was on Lortab 10 (10 hydro/500 aceta) before the doc put me on the Morphine.
It's a little safer if you have to take more than one a day.
I have liver problems so I was taken off completely. But the Lortab seemed to work alot better than the Vicodin.

see if you can get norco,it has ten mgs of hydro with only 325 of tylenol.much better choice if this is used on a daily basis.the 'safe' amount of tylenol goes down a bit when it is actually used on a daily or chronic basis to only 3000mgs.so just be careful.if you could even switch to like oxy IR that has no tylenol at all,that would be even better.why slam your liver and kidneys everyday with tylenol when you really don't have to.it does tend to take its toll for patients who have to be on it constantly.just a suggestion if possible to do.how many vicodins per day are you currently taking?marcia

thanks for the info .... if i need to be on these meds for more than a week i will ask for oxy or norco.
