Dude-how can you even ask that? You must not be injured very badly. I suggest you look in the for hire advertisements. Give yourself a birthday present.

At Shepherd's I saw a Cameron Diaz look alike hook up with a crip-a quad no less-she was an AB. I have never seen a crip fall for a crip. Is it possible?

I am a C3 complete. I broke my neck in 2005. I have been married to a beautiful woman for 17 years. Is the word crip that was offensive? If so please tell me and I will never ever use it again. I am 100% dependent and I thought all quads were 100% dependent. I deeply apologize for any offense I may have caused. I hope you will accept my apologies.

I thought this comment was rather benign; not offensive to me at all -- as a quad no less :)
It's a fair observation and question.

Sorry I didn't see the question. I don't mind the "crip" part, it was the implication that being a quad meant that ABs wouldn't/couldn't/shouldn't find one attractive.

Not talking 4 everyone but the sci's I know hate the word so probably safer to refer to them as people which after all is what they are :agog: Not all quads are dependent not that I see why thats relevant but if you are referring to that meaming that equals a person being unattractive then you are wrong, very wrong.

what's so hard to understand about an AB being attracted to a quad?'
I do understand from a purely physical view it would be hard to get any motion going with 2 quads getting it on. I have had people tell me about a nice looking lady they know in a wheelchair
and we would make a cute couple I am like yeah right. What we gonna do sit and stare at each other all night? I'm not saying a quad woman can't be attractive and sexy. it is just not going to happen with 2 quads. Sex that is. I have met plenty of women on line. Be honest about being disabled in your ad thought.
As a quad it seems like I have met a lot of battered women through the years. My theory is I do not pose a threat to them like a AB man does.
It has been my experience that some women are attracted to quads for whatever reasons
not all just some
some seem to look right past the chair
you will know when you meet one
these are just my opinions

I think you are perfectly on point with your opinions, and I agree with you completely. The facts of my post were all true, but I got a little devil in me in the way I said it. I am overjoyed you are meeting people in a good way! André

I know several married couples where they both have a disability. For some, both have a SCI, while others their disability is different. Several have had children as well. Don't rule out a relationship with someone else who will understand so much more about what you go through everyday without having to always explain.
Acarson just broke up with his wife, so I suspect that this flavors his responses, but he also has very limited experience and knowledge about the range of the SCI world from his comments.
I find that people who are the most likely to say they cannot imagine two people with disabilities together, or that they cannot understand someone who is AB being attracted to someone in a chair are projecting their own self-hate and poor self worth onto these situations. If you don't love yourself, and truely believe that you have something to offer a mate, you will project that. Few people are attracted to a mate who is overwhelmed with self-pity and self-loathing. Working on self-esteem issues is a good way to start. Some people who use the "crip" word are really showing this self-hate, similar to how the "N" word is used by some people who are black.

I don't mind the word crip but lots do so I try not to say it anymore. We just don't have a good word for ourselves. It's not out of the realm of possibility that an AB could love one of us. FWIW, if your avatar is actually you, you are qite an attractive man, acarson. (Not flirting here, just telling you in case you don't know!)

Dear nurse-I need to give you a break because you don't know me and you certainly don't know my sense of humor. When I was at Shepherd's in Atlanta there was a cute 20 something year old who told her mother that she thought I was hot. Her mother told me and we had a good laugh. I don't care what other people think about me I am going to say what is on my mind-sometimes just to see the look on someone else's face. If I throw the word crip out there I am doing it to see where everybody is on the subject. With all due respect, if you don't have a spinal cord injury you are making great leaps to assume you understand what it is like to have one. Having said that, I love you for your willingness to help.
By the way-where he did you get that I broke up with my wife?
That is my picture taken about three weeks before I broke my neck. The picture in my profile was taken about two months before my injury.

Don't "settle." Yes, the numbers game gets a little harder because not many women are looking for a good quad. But there are some good women (hot too) that are just fine with the whole wheelchair thing. Just be comfortable in your own skin and they'll show up. Plus, it doesn't hurt if you master a few new sexual techniqes that you probably didn't pay much attention to before being paralyzed. If you know what I mean...

Does anyone know the whereabouts of A Carson?
Did he end up in a nursing home?

I finally got my computer working. I am in a skilled care nursing facility! I was terrified at first but this staff is so incredible it is beyond belief. My wife is back to herself, she is doing the things that need to be done, without me weighting her down, and I am getting first rate care. I know this is not the end of the journey, but I am here for now.

You're lucky. Some are worse than prison from the horror stories I have read in New Mobility and other publications.
How do you type, with NaturallySpeaking or Dragon?
good news Carson. hang in there like the rest of use. never know what the future will bring us.

Hey Andre! Glad to hear you accomplished this. I know it was a hard move for you. It may take a while to get things going, but hang in there. Do you still keep in touch with your office? How are your pain management problems coming along?

I am using Dragonspeak voice recognition software. And I have heard the horror stories of rest homes. One of my best friends is a fellow lawyer who specializes in suing them. This is skilled care, it is fully staffed, and part of a huge teaching hospital. I am going through a huge transition in my life, at first it felt like I had fallen off the edge of a cliff. But my antidepressants have started working, and I feel great!
