Hello I'm new to this site. my husband is a T-2 para, since aug.05. he is always in a lot of pain, burning, spasams and all the junk that goes with this. well we decided to attempt the baclofen pump and went in for the test trial. They did the shot in the back then said that he could go home within a few hrs. it was supposed to be an overnight thing, but they were confident that he was fine. well thank god that we were still in the hospital because just when they were getting us ready to go home he fell asleep and they could not wake him, he went from being alert and looking at our bills to unconcious, very low blood pressure and unable to breath. they put him into I C U and then on a vent. It was about 19 hrs later that he finally woke up. The doctor openly admitted that he gave him too much! He's home now and hurting, but alive!!! Now what do we do, get the pump, not get the pump, I have read about overdoses with the pump but not with the test trial!!! Has anyone dealt with this or heard about this??? We are so confused and terrified now!!! I have a million other questions, but right now this is what we are dealing with? I can't handle too much at a time!!!

Wow, how awful for your husband. And you. I don't have any answers here and nothing constructive to contribute other than I'm sure that the two of you will make a good decision and I'll keep you guys in my prayers.

Oh, I think I'd want to work with another doc after that

I have had a baclofen pump for three years. I have had no problems with the pump. They continue to increase dosage as time goes on but the spasticty in my legs has not been reducced. My CNS has not been helped by the pump. I do like it when I get a bump in my dosage at the office. When they come up with a self driven remote for small bolus it will be helpfull. I find that in the afternoon my pain spikes to an 11. There is also a drug that is out called "Prialt" This can be sent through the pump. I am scared to do any cocktail in my pump and have been instructed to go off the Baclofen and then they can fill it with the other drug. Back to the basics. He made it through and now he can get the pump. Was it helpfull before he had his long nap.

Prialt is a new drug treatment that has recently gotten FDA approval. My doctor offered to get me into a trial, but after I read about the potential side effects I decided that I would wait for the drug to be out for a while before considering it. It is also very expensive, so you should check with your insurance before considering it.
