I'm so glad to hear you're pain-free.
I too am on Morphine-Sulphate and find it works well. How long have you been taking it?
After a while, you may build a bit of tollerance up and need to up your dose a little.
Well done :)

That's great Rona! How long have you been on MS?
Realize that the "game" of fighting to figure out exactly what it takes to keep things settled probably isn't over, but this is a ***MAJOR*** victory!
hey guys,
he just put me on it 1-18-07. because the pain was so bad i went to the hospital... the nurse wanted to give me 60 of tordal but the er doc. would only give me 30 and id the pain didn't go away come back... well we have 8 inches of snow here and that is just mean to make me come back to the er... so i took 2 peracet that night, when into the dr. told him the story and explained again that being in the chair for 24 years has done me no good.. then he felt my hip/pelvis (i can't spell) and said i have ostrposis and arthritis in my pelvis with no padding(no butt) and that when i sit it grinds and sends pains down my leg, hip and i can't sleep at night. they also did a bone density test that showed bad news... so i got upset and told them that I KNOW MY BODY AND THIS IS NOT FAIR TO ME TO LIVE IN THE CHAIR FOR ONE, FOR TWO IN PAIN! then is when the dr. felt for me and gave me the 30 mg of morphine 2 times a day... but last night i couldn't sleep so i had to take one to go to back to sleep. so that is my story. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!
PEACE

Rona , that is great to hear I have minimal pain when I first get up , then after my medications and moving around I'm feeling great now , the only thing I can no longer predict the weather before , I could tell if we were going to get rain or snow , but now I'm like a regular weatherman they just guess too. how is morphine sulfate different from Oxycontin as far as how it makes you feel? my problem with Oxycontin is the insomnia i get at night, lunesta doesn't touch it, i need to take 10 mg of amitriptyline also to sleep.
during the day the Oxycontin is fine
I'm glad somebody's getting relief.

I have noticed that if I stay inside I'm feeling great , but if I have to go out it bothers me a little , but this weather has been up and down , some days we have a wind chill and that's when it gets me and in single digits too , but that's what it's like living in New Hampshire the temps have been going up and down , but we've been very lucky we've only had less than 2 inches of snow so far this season , but like I said temps have been crazy , so I try to just stay home . you people think I'm going crazy Look up the weather for the month of Janurary for Nashua NH. and you will see what I mean it's crazy not me . How constipating is the morphine sulfate? Do people find it less constipating than Percocet? I like the fact that the morphine is time released whereby the side effects are usually less severe, in my experience anyway.
What do others here do who regularly take narcotics for pain to control constipation? I've been taking 100 mg stool softeners twice a day with some BeneFiber at least once a day and I try to drink at least 80 ounces of water daily. Recently I've been adding another stool softener a day. I do my bowel care every MWF.

Just a remiinder to folks, it's advisable to avoid taking anything with Tylenol on a long-term basis, such as Percocet (or any of the other 'cets).

I am surprised by this thread. I would have thought that everybody who has severe pain will have been exposed to morphine sulfate.
If morphine really works but you have constipation or other peripheral side effects, one possible way around this the side-effects is to get the morphine intrathecally.

O.k. I'm willing to bet that if any of you try "Movicol" with your meds, you'll be amazed....If you haven't tried it already.
Everyone I know swares by it. You just have to find the right dose that suits you! Should take a week or so and no more constipation....hopefully!
To be honest I don't even need it anymore....don't know if it has anything to do with it or not?
I take 120mg of Morphine Sulphate and find it better than Oxycontin, Methadone etc.

I take Kadian 30mg, it's a long acting pain reliever. It's morphine also. It doesn't have any tylenol or anything in it, so it's a single ingrediant med. It's amazing. All I do is take one or 2 a day, and I am practically pain free. I was amazed when my doc prescribed it, it's the only pain med that has really helped me. Plus, you don't have to keep taking pill after pill, so it's supposed to be less addictive also. I am also not as constipated as I used to be with the percocet, vicodin, etc. It's great. Anyways, just my 2 cents. Tiff

I take Alka-sletzer and acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain and eat fruit, natural grain bread and lectuce. When I want to get a dump going I include from one to two tablespoons of cut flax seed in my food and I'll generally go in less than a day and have a nice, matural seeming dump.
Been hitting the Pinball and Solitaire too much so gotta go get my fizz and Tylenol.

Ok, first of all, eww. Second, whenever I have to make myself "go", I eat Selects Great Grains cereal, works everytime. Third, All that tylenol is no good. But I suppose you know that already. Tiff

i think that is the same as miralax in the usa. miralx just became available here over the counter, before now it was prescription only. i just got a flyer from costco they will be carrying it.
jonnyc how does morphine sulfate compare to Oxycontin as far as making you feel? Oxycontin i feel ok on , except at night i cant sleep and lunesta doesn't punch through it. i need to take amitriptyline to help with sleep, since i really don't want to take a stronger sleep med if i can avoid it.
how did you compare the oxycontin to morphine sulfate as far as constipation? oxycodone constipated the hell out of me, but Oxycontin doesn't seem to. just looking for other people experiences. i take lyrica too, it really speeds up the motility of my bowels, so that may off set the oxycontin.

I've never taken oxy's but the vidocin and percocet, always kept me awake and made me sleep way too long. I lost all my ambition, it was not good. The MS, does the trick, I can sleep, I don't sleep all day, and no constipation. It's really great. Tiff

I wasn't on Oxycontin that long but MS makes me feel fine all day. I feel a bit groggy in the morning till it kicks in and then my mood changes for the better. As for sleep, I sleep well on it. Its when I don't take it I struggle a little to sleep. I also don't suffer at all with constipation on MS and if I did I'd take movicol.
