I have seen documentaries that if you didn't know that a chimp was a chimp you would rank their actions as human in nature.

They have a society that is dictorial..male dictatorship. As do the Gorillas.
Why? If not chaos and starvation and weak offspring would result.

Compare this type of leadership to the maternal led elephant family life. You will see a wide variance in attitudes. BUT still a dictatorship. It's so interesting.

Chimp society is full of judgements and juries..and even mob violence. They also are very non involved in accepting a chimp that isn't healthy. They don't necessarily destroy them as other species..but they just ignore them to the best of their ability.

Wild horses though will destroy many of their offspring..interestingly it's the stallions that decide.

Gorillas are more sensitive and are not mobbish.
They rely soley on their silverback for leadership.
And the silverback does all the punishments alone..not in mobs like the chimps.

I saw a wonderful documentary about dolphins that live in the cold waters. They are so advanced emotionally.
There was one dolphin born very deformed. The scientists named him Quasi Moto. The rest of the dolphins though never attacked him..they even would wait up for him..and he was involved in every part of their lives together. Also when a dolphin was born too early in these waters it would die..the mothers would not stop trying to revive it..so the males of the group would gently take the corpse from the mothers and let it float away. Then they would surround here and escort her pack to the group.

Animals are amazing.

There is an amazing video called the Beast Within.
It's a documentary about chimps.
In this video they showed a chimp that was a family chimp but had done something wrong and was cast out.
He tried to get away, but the rest of the pack went out and hunted him down. Then they got him and ALL of them beat him to death then dragged him out to the open plain and left him there for the scavengers.

They can be ruthless.
And in captivity extremely intelligent and loving also. Too humanlike to not be so genetically close.

This one scientist had worked with two chimps for about six years. Then she went away to other projects and came back to see them 18 years later.
They were in a sanctuary..and they recognized her instantly before she even left the boat bringing her to them. They went up to her and hugged all over her..sat with her holding hands. A very complex creature indeed. They were smiling even ear to ear..and when she left they were SAD.
