Wheelchair power packs review

Provision of power packs for wheelchairs in parts of Norfolk could be cut back with a looming review over their allocation.
Primary Care Trusts have been providing them whenever possible but with many coming to the end of their useful life, funding constraints may mean they are not renewed.
The £600 packs which power wheelchairs help ease the burden on older people who may need to push a heavy or disabled partner around.
The PCT's wheelchair services unit bought a number of them some years ago with a cash surplus and they have been made available through a waiting list whenever a user no longer needed them, but in some cases it has been a lengthy wait.
A spokesman for the central cluster of Norfolk PCTs - those in Norwich, Broadland, North Norfolk and Southern Norfolk - said many of the power packs are wearing out.
