I asked for information about the H200 by Bioness for my son who is a C5-6 incomplete, post 6 years. They sent a packet of information and a dvd. I can't tell if it is primarlily a fancy, expensive e-stim device or if it can aid in doing functional tasks such as picking up things, holding a cup, etc. Has anyone tried it? I understand one has to be trained by them and I think it is a fairly new device.

My son has learned to do a lot of things with the a hand brace and a pencil eraser, but he would love to be able to cut up his own food, pick up a dvd, and hold a can or cup.

If anyone has some personal experience with this device, I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

I have used the unit with several individuals (varying levels of success). Yes it is an expensive e-stim unit. What makes it unique is that the rigid exoskeleton maps out the motor points of the forearm necessary for grasping (this saves an enormous amount of time). There are several program options for different grasps/grips (mass grasp, key grip) or exercises. I would highly recommend that you and your son trial the unit before you spend approximately $5,000. Additionally, you would have to purchase a left and right if both hands are involved.
