Help! Windows XP doesn't start

I used my desktop this mourning for some home banking, and it was fine. Evening time I tried to turn it on and the Windows xp does not start. It boots up to the windows xp black screen with the runner thingy but never goes to the blue screen. I can get to the windows in safe mode, and I tried the system restore, but it still does the same thing. Anyone have any clue/suggestions?

try loading in your xp disc and using the repair option, i think thats what my friend did when he had a similar problem
