It's just a little early for flu. Does he have a cough or stuffy nose? If so it might be a bad cold. If not, then you should probably get his urine checked to be sure.

Yea, I guess he better. What has me most concerned is how dizzy he says he is. He says he can barely look from side to side without feeling very dizzy. He almost fell transferring. Right now he is laying down....

Also, BP is ok.....

Dizziness when moving his head sounds like sinuses?

Dizziness when moving his head sounds like sinuses?

that would be my first thought too....When I have a sinus/upper respiratory infection I get dizzy like that...It used to be my 1st illness assumption b/c that's the ONLY thing that I ever got....now I never think about it until evrything else is ruled out...(go figure)

SCI nurse will hate this, but I used the handy dandy UTI kit and it indicated no bladder infection. He is still in bed so he says he is not dizzy but sick to his stomach. My feeling is it's just a bug. There is no fever. His urine is very dark. I am gonna take some in for a test at the doc's.

Chopperchick those tests are not reliable. Dark urine can indicate dehydration too.....just make him drink!!

Hope he gets to feeling better......

Thanks darkeyed. I hope he feels better son too. This is messing up his regimine.

Thats exactly what I told him. Dehydration. Because along with the dark urine there is also not alot of output. His argument was that if he is dehydrated than why doesn't he feel thirsty.

I know I know, I am not going to rely on the test. Just gave him Vitamin C, Garlic and a cranberry pill with about 12oz water.

Well, yes, sinus infecton is possible, I used to get them alll the time until the last wack on the head, all I ever wanted was a sinus bypass op, but they said I didn't need it, so much for the doc's I saw over the years. Now no sinus problems, bad way to get rid of them......

If only we'd met sooner KK....

He seems to be feeling better. He was able to get up in the standing frame and says the sour stomach has passed. He has had a lot of liquids today and yet still very dark urine and super small cath volume. No edema though. Could it be that his bladder is not empying or something? How long does it take for liquids to pass through the body? For instance....if Mike drank 24 oz of water, how long would it be before that would pass through his system to be cathed out?

It's going to b epend on how dehydrated and ill he was. He should start to pee pretty soon. I wouldn't worry about it for a day or two.

He is very sick right now. Says it is hard to breathe and awful stomach cramps. He thinks it is the flu. He drank about 65 oz of water today and has only cathed 300cc. I think he needs a doctor now but he is laying down telling me not to take him??!!! He also says he is extremly thirsty but the thirsty feeling comes and lats for a few minutes then passes....

OK, so he'll probably HATE the tast of it, but if you can get some Pedialyte popsicles, have him suck on some of those....they'll help with the thirst/dehydration...he most likely IS dehydrated...You mentioned he's having difficulty breathing....My 1st question has GOT to be....does he have Asthma? If so, has he used his inhaler yet? The difficulty breathing leads me back to the earlier discussion of upper-respiratory infection....I often felt better for a short while, then went on a downward spiral...I NEVER EVER would admit to being "sick" until I was too sick to get out of bed...(paid dearly for that a couple times)....ANYWAY, 1)you know you can't force him to go to the dr against his will, 2)unless he's vomiting horribly, or passing out I PERSONALLY feel that he'd be better served seeing his GP or even a walk-in clinic tomorrow, during the day than going to an ER this late at night.

Thanks Chelle. I am checking in one last time tonight. He is sleeping comfortably for now. You know what I think? I think he had a panic attack. They can be present with very physical signs ie. shortness of breathe...I am still not sure about the little caths though... We are hoping for a nice clear big 'ol cath later tonight. We'll have to wait and see.

Thanks again Chelle for the reply.... I had just checked in hoping for a response :)
