Hi Challenged Athlete,

I don't own a cell phone and I don't want a cell phone. I can build a computer from the case up but couldn't tell you how to turn one of those damn things on! I'm a Challenged Cell Phone User and definitely not an Athlete.

But I had nothing better to do at 3:30AM so thought I'd try to learn something about your cell phone. If you go to the Samsung website for Support (http://www.samsung.com/) the model # of your phone is SGH-E715.

There are 3 ways to transfer pictures or jpg files from your phone to your PC. The best way is via the data link cable supplied in your SGH-E715 kit. I imagine that's the USB cable you wrote about.

The other 2 ways are sending them to yourself via email to your PC and if you have an IrDA port on your computer you can set that up to transfer your jpgs to your PC via infrared connection. See info below.

But since you have the cable, use that. I imagine you have a user manual that came with your cell phone, but if not Samsung has a PDF file on their website that hints at how you can transfer your jpgs to your computer. Of course you'll need Adobe's Acrobat reader installed (20MBs) in order to read the user manual file (1.2MBs) that you can download at the same Samsung PDF file download page HERE (http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/FileView.aspx?cttfileid=41847&type=Mobile+Phone&typecode=18&subtype=Mobile+Phone&subtypecode=&cmssubtypecode=1805&model=SGH-E715&filetype=UM&language=).

But you'll also need the PC Link Software installed. It's a rather larger file @ 32MBs. You may have or should have received a CD with all of this software on it but if not you can download the PC Link Software HERE (http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/FileView.aspx?cttfileid=400832&type=Mobile+Phone&typecode=18&subtype=Mobile+Phone&subtypecode=&cmssubtypecode=1805&model=SGH-E715&filetype=SW&language=).

These links may take awhile to download since the URLs are so long and may time-out so you may need to try them twice or thrice. I sure hope you have a fast broadband connection. :) Or just go to the above "Samsung website for Support" and navigate around until you find what you need.

The software program is also named the SGH-E715 Samsung PC Studio PIMS (ver.II 1.0) software program. Just click on the link and choose "Open" (or "Save" if you want... then Open it later) and let it install itself. It will default to location C:\Program Files\Samsung. It will ask you if you want a desktop icon installed and of course choose "Yes".

I can't get the software to activate because I don't have the SGH-E715 cell phone TURNED ON and connected to my computer. But I would suggest, after getting the software installed, to 2 click on the desktop icon and then hit the F1 key for Help. Then go down to "Tools" and expand that to "File Manager" and you should be able to follow the directions from there with the graphic aids provided.

I think it's usually best to have your cell phone and USB UNPLUGGED when first installing the software. At least that has been my experience with other USB devices in the past. Then restart your computer and you can just "hotplug" the USB cable into a USB port and your computer should recognize it via the drivers and find the SGH-E715 cell phone software. If it doesn't then restart again and 2 click on the desktop icon.

Here's the part of the SGH-E715 cell phone PDF file pertaining to the camera if you don't feel like downloading the whole damn thing! This info is from around page 77 or so of the PDF file.

Picture Messages:

Multimedia Message Service (MMS) is a messaging service
very similar to Short Message Service (SMS). It provides
automatic and immediate delivery of personal multimedia
messages from phone to phone or from phone to e-mail.
In addition to the familiar text content of text messages,
multimedia messages can contain images, graphics, voice
and audio clips. An MMS message is a multimedia
presentation in a single entry. It is not a text file with
attachments. Using the MMS feature, your phone can
receive multimedia messages. You can also send picture
messages, which are short messages that contain images,
such as your photos or graphics you downloaded from the
Internet. This function is available only if it is supported by
your service provider. Only phones that offer picture
message features can receive and display picture messages.

My Album:

This option provides the ability for you to store your pictures
using the t-zone browser. When a picture is taken and you
have selected the Save soft key; you are prompted with the
option to select Next or NewPhoto. Use the following
procedures to send a picture to your album:
1. Select Next to go to the Photo Menu.
2. Select 1 or Send to name the picture and then press the OK
soft key.
3. Select option 2 or Send to My Album. The Picture
Messages screen is displayed and your picture is stored in
the Picture Outbox and sent to your album.

My Journal:

This option provides the ability for you to post your
multimedia content to the Internet. When a picture is taken
and you have selected the Save soft key; you are prompted
with the option to select Next or NewPhoto. Use the
following procedures to send a picture to your journal:
1. Select Next to go to the Photo Menu.
2. Select 1 or Send to name the picture and then press the OK
soft key.
3. Select option 3 or Send to My Journal. The Picture
Messages screen is displayed and your picture is sent to
your journal and is also stored in the Picture Outbox.

Memory Status

The Memory Status screen displays the Total, Free and
Used photo memory.

Infrared Activate:

This feature allows you to send or receive data through the
infrared port. To use an infrared connection, you must:

Configure and activate an IrDA-compliant infrared port on your
PC.

Activate the infrared feature on the phone; the IrDA icon
appears on the top line of the display.

Align the IrDA port on the phone with the IrDA port on your
computer.

The connection is ready for data transmission.

If there is no communication between your phone and the
IrDA-compliant device within 30 seconds of activating the
feature, it is automatically deactivated.

Note: For the best performance, use the data link cable supplied in your SGH-E715 kit.

Good luck!

Hi Challenged Athlete,

No problem, I enjoy learning new stuff. I'm a Googlemeister. But you should have the SGH-E715 Samsung PC Studio PIMS (ver.II 1.0) software program on a CD that came with the cell phone. But in order to save money, the days of good hard copy manuals and even CDs are becoming a thing of the past and you need to download the stuff from the company's website. At least this is true with games and my forte, flight simulators.

Now that I have the SGH-E715 Samsung PC Studio PIMS (ver.II 1.0) software program installed on my PC maybe I should buy the cell phone so I can put it to use. :)

Let me know when you get a few pictures downloaded into your PC. Then I'll feel free to uninstall/remove the software. I need a few pictures taken and my friend has a cell phone with picture taking capability but no connection cable or software. I'll probably end up buying him the cable and downloading his necessary software.

I should just buy a cheap digital camera for myself. :)

I've been looking around for a microscope/digital camera combo that I can hook up to my computer and so far the ones I've found are quite expensive. I'll have to keep lookin'. Anyway....

Have a good one.

Bob.

Hi Challenged Athlete,

Sorry to hear that. I imagine, since you decided to download it that you don't have the CD disk that is supposed to come with the phone. Too bad.

Do you have dialup or a slow connection? I downloaded it in a minute on cable broadband and it installed perfectly. Maybe try to download it again and get an uncorrupted copy that hopefully won't be corrupted again and will work for you. Don't use any of those "accelerator programs" that are notorious for screwing up downloads and just gunk up your computer.

You may as well delete the corrupted copy and make sure that it didn't partially install and is in your control Panel under "Add or Remove Programs". Good luck.

You could order the CD from Samsung or if you'd like, PM with your name and address and I'll burn it onto a CD and mail it to you. And if you have any music requests let me know... I can usually get whatever you want. Either in mp3 format or I can convert them into CDAs for playing on any CD player. Just another service that we here at "Bob's Bargain Basement Outlet" offer to our friends. :)

Hi Vito,

Have you downloaded the software yet and been able to install it? Good luck to you too.

Bob.

Hi Challenged Athlete,

The Ebay link you posted was for the USB cable that you need to connect your cell phone and computer. You also need the software program. I didn't see any mention of the software program there.

Do you have a dialup or broadband connection?

It's obvious that when you tried to download the SGH-E715 Samsung PC Studio PIMS (ver.II 1.0) software program that you need, it became corrupted. Not a very unusual occurrence when trying to download a fairly large (32mbs) program/file with a slow dialup connection.

You can try downloading it again (http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/FileView.aspx?cttfileid=400832&type=Mobile+Phone&typecode=18&subtype=Mobile+Phone&subtypecode=&cmssubtypecode=1805&model=SGH-E715&filetype=SW&language=), perhaps at night while you're sleeping or when you go out for a couple/few hours.

Or send me a PM with your name and mailing address and I'll burn the software program onto a CD and send it to you. My main computer is tore apart now because I had to return (RMA) the power supply unit back to the manufacturer )grrrrrr!) in CA yesterday. Coincidentally I see that you live in CA. But I have a CD burner on this computer that I can use so just PM me if you're unable to download the program uncorrupted.

It should only take me 3 days to get it to you... I'll send it priority mail.

Perhaps you don't know how to PM here. I'll PM you and you can just hit the "Reply" button and send me your name and address that way if you want.

See ya later.

Hi Bob
I already PM-ed you before I saw this post. But, I was gonna say that the USB cable I bought came with the CD which I already downloaded but, still didn't work, That's why I was hoping you would have a look on it & see what you think, maybe I'm doing something wrong or it's the CD itself.
Yes, I have a dial up connection.
Thanx, CA.

Hi Challenged Athlete,

If you got the USB cable and the SGH-E715 Samsung PC Studio PIMS (ver.II 1.0) software program installed and you can't get it to work then 2 click on the Samsung PC Studio desktop icon and then hit the F1 key for Help. Then go down to "Tools" and expand that (click on the "+" sign) to "File Manager" and you should be able to follow the directions from there with the graphic aids provided.

If you still can't get it to work then ask a computer savvy friend to help you out. It's probably something very simple that you're overlooking (the camera not turned on etc.) and another pair of eyes on the problem will probably get your jpgs transferred from your cellphone camera into your computer.

Assuming that you have the software program properly installed have you looked inside the Samsung PC Studio folder (probably located in C:\Program Files\Samsung) to see if there's another folder in there that may contain the jpgs/pictures?

Maybe your computer needs a cleanup and defrag or whatever and a virus scan if you can't get the SGH-E715 Samsung PC Studio PIMS (ver.II 1.0) software program off the CD installed. Or maybe your CD drive is screwing up and not reading the CD properly.

Keep on truckin'.

Bob.

PS. Try unplugging and plugging back in the USB cable.
