SUCKS!!!!!!

Now that's off my chest. I'm getting the error @ signal yadda yadda. I imported my backup to no avail.

Is 9 any better?

Nuance is as bad as ENRON in my book.

No complaints about 8. Do you save your user files? I never do once I get the thing to recognize my voice.

Hi, Liz. This really is the $64 Question--or, in your case, the $100 Question for the upgrade to 9.0. I have been reading the different voice recognition forums for about the last two months, and it does seem to me that there are quite a few unhappy users who have upgraded from version 8 to version 9. I feel lucky that everything is working well for me, and I upgraded from version 7 to version 9 (full copy).

If you have already (this is what I would do) uninstalled and reinstalled Dragon along with doing a repair, and these problems continue, then it may be worth gambling on version 9. Try using a different microphone or headset to see if this makes a difference. Dragon 9 is also a little more demanding on system resources than versions 8 or 7, and you would want 1 GB of RAM.

I may have a resource for you in New York if you need a microphone/headset, and I think he sells Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

Interesting. I think you want to save your user files when you make changes, i.e., "Spell that." The other day Dragon was making mistakes with "DRM" so I did a little more training and then I saved my user files.

Version 8 is finally recognizing my voice so not interested in retraining and upgrading to version 9. I always save my user files, find it useful after chat as people's nicks are saved for next session.

You were right, Liz. Practice, practice and more practice to become proficient with Dragon. My personal nightmare would be my software needing to be retrained.

Hi Liz!

I think it's time to completely uninstall Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8.0 and do not keep/save the user files in the process. I don't think that you always need to save your user files every time you use Dragon. This could possibly (always saving your user files) be a cause for corruption over time. However, when adding a new word/term, or new hardware such as a microphone or headset, then you would want to save your user files.

From what I've read you do NOT want to upgrade or use your old User Files.

"You should never let a newer version of NaturallySpeaking upgrade a previous user file. Your previous user files were built on now out of date algorithms and at best, you'll wind up with a hybrid user file that in all likelihood won't be as accurate or as fast.", "export the vocabulary via the Words/Export menu."
