If my computer is slow starting up, could having too many objects on my desktop slow it down?
Also, I have a lot of little icons in the lower right of the screen (toolbar? taskbar?): AC-power, Unplug hardware, Volume, Intel Speedstep, Quicktime. . . & about 8 more. When I right-click them, they don't seem to have a delete option, like the icons on my desktop.
Thanks for any help. -M22

Hi Michael22,
Go to Start, then Run, then type in msconfig and hit OK. Then go to Startup and uncheck any program that you don't want starting up automatically. It will also remove them from your taskbar.... the lower right hand corner of your screen.
Sometimes it's difficult to figure out just what everything is but for example QuickTime is "qttask". You can adjust the three windows in the Startup box by using your cursor between the 3 windows until you get a double arrow.... then adjust the size by holding down the left click button (dragging) and moving them. You'll be able to figure out what most things are once you see the full Command Line.
You'll need to Restart to have it take effect and then after your computer reboots check off the msconfig box.... I forget what it says but you'll be able to figure it out. Just agree to the changes that you've made.
Good luck.
