I have been having trouble with iTunes. . . or more accurately, how to use my computer properly. I've essentially erased the 70 or so cd's that I'd saved in iTunes twice & want to avoid any more such incidents. I'm in the techno-peasant category here with this question: could I get a memory stick on which to save my music in case something goes wrong again? Any specific recommendations?
I'm running the previous iTunes 6. I don't think I need 7 because I am not into photos at all & I'm not sure it can fit on my computer-- an IBM Thinkpad T21 running Windows 2000 Pro.
Thanks, -M22
One other thing: my cursor has a tendency to float around on its own. sometimes it will just drift. it doesn't do it a lot & it's just a minor annoyance. any guidance on that one?

Burn your music onto a couple DVD-Rs. They hold about 4 and a half gigabytes. With 70 albums, you should only need two or three.

For the mouse Issue, update the driver..... Touchpads are twitchy...
About the music..... Think Nelson on The Simpsons ."Ha Ha"...... j/k.....
Do the above suggestions.... The only downside of DVD's is that most music players (not computers) don't play them directly, as like if they were on CD's

iTunes 7 is cool - it's worth the upgrade - and is free.
as for your music being lost - check to see if the actual music files (.mp3, .m4a, etc.) are still on your computer. you may have inadvertently deleted the iTunes library (basically just an index) but not the data itself.
as for backing the music up, I'd just buy an external hard drive (usb 2.0 or firewire) & copy/paste the music files over. an iPod would work for this purpose as well - rollin, yes files can be transferred back.
the cursor issue is probably due to the thinkpad's pointing stick - you probably just have a piece of dirt/etc that got caught on one side of it.

i have to agree it is cool. upgraded yesterday an i believe this is the best update they have had in years.
i like how you can look up any artist an listen to samples of every song on every album they've made. same with videos. definitely worth it. :D

I don't know about Windows but iTunes cannot copy music from the iPod or MP3 to the computer. You have to get third party software to do so and Apple keeps upgrading the software to make it inconvenient to do so. There is also a certain count of the number of times you can write iTunes purchased music from iTunes onto a CD.
I personally don't like the quality of MP3 music and prefer to buy the CDs but will, if I don't have the time to go and find the CD, will buy them through iTunes. For me, video is just too consumptive of disc space, taking up gigabytes and therefore I prefer videos on DVD's rather than on the hard disc. I generally don't like to download videos.
In my opinion, one of the most attractive aspects of iTunes is you ability to download virtually all available the best podcasts from radio, most of it for free. Most of National Public Radio shows are now available as free podcasts and many other things. In fact, there is too many things to listen to even if you had 24 hours a day to listen.

The program that I use(on my Mac, I don't know if there's a Windoze :p version) is called Senuti...Jadis & I were actually able to completely swap the music we had on our respective iPods to eachother's computers when I was out in MT back in April using this program....it's easy to use, Jadis installed it for me, but I think she downloaded it from TuCows...
