I had a computer that while working it would go blank. I turned off the monitor and turned it back on and it worked again. The same thing kept happening over and over. I changed the monitor out with another one and everything is fine. Can this be fixed because my boss just wants to get another one and he will tell me I can have the old on if I want. It is a nice flat screen.

HMMMM Sounds like an overheating issue.. Maybe worth it if you can get the part... Ebay might have a broken screen on for cheap. Usually its the lcd that gets physically damage.

I'd suggest as true computer/hardware forum. But Free is a grab.

That is an idea?...but she had just turned it on? I thought a short in the wire because the other monitor worked? Could the line inside the moniter be loose? Can I use any parts if it is useless instead of dumping it in the trash?

My computer did that once...no screen, no keyboard, no mouse, no nothing. Turns out my CPU had a heart attack and died on the spot. Yours may be ready to do the heave ho. I just replaced mine and am now enjoying the resurrection.

It was just the moniter, we replaced it is ok. I want to know why because my boss will just buy a new one. I just do not want to trash a flat screen. BTW does your computer have a pacemaker? :D

I'd just trash it. Something in it electronicaly isn't working propperly. Who wants to go through the expence and hassle of trying to get a junked monitor to harvest parts off of hopeing that what broke this isn't the same that broke yours. There just isn't enough reward to make trying to salavge this monitor worth it.

Hi Teryn,
I thought it maybe something simple and I could have a flat screen for free :applaud: I could use it for a BB gun target. :) I remember and thank you for all the help you have given. :)

What about the switch itself might be faulty it's worth the try.

Good idea but how do you test a switch?

Get another switch and replace the existing one, also you can take the existing switch to your local electronic store and I'm pretty sure that they would test it for you to see if it is faulty. Otherwise testing it your self you would need a potentiometer meter if I'm not mistaking to test it out.

Do you mean the on / off switch? Like Radio Shack?BTW what is a
potentiometer meter?

Yes, I mean the on-off switch from the monitor. Sorry it was my mistake I was talking about a voltage meter that you can check the continuity on the switch.

I will try that because the switch must be cheap. Ya think Radio Shack has one?

That is the cheapest way to go. Just take the switch and go down to RadioShack see if they have it. Do you have a model number for that monitor?

Have you tried/tested the monitor on another computer?

Not yet Bob because my boss put it in by one of our computers that I can not get to. I have thought of that also. My boss has been in a golfing tournament so his office has been locked and I have been interviewing job applicants. I know him. He will just walk in with a new one and give that one to me.
Thanx,
Matt

It doesn't sound like a switch. As you say it works for a bit, then shuts off. Then after abit, it comes back on. Which, to me( a limited electronics experience) seems like a overheating thing. Broken Moitors go for cheeap.

Crazy........ Just checked ebay...... ALL HP lcds that are broken, are doing that exact same thing..........

On that note...... Give it to someone else.

Thanx, that was a good idea with the Ebay. I could use it for target practice :)
