Write to the edge

KEN Haley has an extraordinary tale to tell. And he tells it well in his first book, Emails from the Edge: A Journey Through Troubled Times, which he will bring with him to the Brisbane Writers Festival, which kicks off tomorrow.
In it, the Walkley award-winning journalist tells of his two years of travelling through 41 countries in Eurasia in his wheelchair, observing the Muslim world post-September 11, 2001.
He also talks of his personal troubles in 1991 which left him a paraplegic, the tragic result of an attempted suicide bid sparked by the trauma of the first Gulf War, which Haley experienced at close quarters.
"I'm not shy or coy in talking about it," he said during a whirlwind visit to Brisbane last week.
