I've always heard that consuption of alcohol renders antibiotics ineffective. Is this indeed true?

There are a few antibiotics such as tetracycline and doxycyclines that are less effective when taken with alcohol. Otherwise, a small amount of alcohol does not affect the efficacy of antibiotics.

I have never heard that alcohol has an effect on Ceftin. Check with your pharmacist.

If you consider Flagyl an antibiotic taking it and drinking any booze can make you woofin' your cookies sick. Other than that some need you to up water intake so they don't form crystals in the kidneys. But that would be from the diuretic effect already mentioned.

Thanks for all your posts.
I don't use alcohol while taking abtibiotics because I've always been told by friends that they won't be as effective. I just got to wondering why I never questioned if this is true.
