:) Hi all
I'm a t5 para, complete and have been for 24 yrs, since and accident as a small child. I've always been very healthy, pain free and fit enough to compete as a swimmer in 2 paralympic Games. Two years ago, I suddenly began to experience severe pain in my upper body- predominantly neck, then arms, shoulders and hands.Everything becomes extremely tight, it is hard to turn my head and sometimes my fingers curl up or go funny. I get sharp stabbing pains, and these continue down my right side to below the level of my injury.
The pain goes away at times, and is brought on by exercise and movement. If I lay in bed and dont move it stops hurting- but needless to say thats very boring! I have had countless scans and tests (mri, bone scan, xray, nerve function test), all of which show nothing structuarally wrong. I now have weekly massage and get relief from 2 visits to an osteopath each week.
When I have the pain, it feels like everything in my body hurts, and my incontinence gets worse. It is also worse with tiredness and stress, and cold weather.
Does anyone think this sounds like nerve pain, or could it be from my posture. I have a dislocated right hip (happened 10 years ago) I also have had a spinal fusion (11 years ago) from my tailbone up to the last vertebrae before my neck, however the fusion came undone and had to be re set so my spine is still very crooked and I lean to the right, towards the hip which is out. whenever the dislocated hip is moved or bumped I feel a stabbing sensation in my side and the pain all over my body gets worse.
Just wondering whether anyone else has experienced anything like this? What did you do about it. Could it be related to the scoliosis or dislocated hip? And why did the pain start after 24 years?
It seems to me that seing as the pain comes and goes there must be a trigger and ways to make it better- if i could just figure it out!
