I'm experiencing an intense burning pain/sensation in my feet (left especially) and on my buttocks as well. Tegretol isn't helping at all. Please advise.

first of all,do you know why this is happening?have you been Dxed with anything yet?there are many different anti siezure med that you can try besides the tegretol.they all seem to work just a little bit differently and some will work beter for one persons pain than another.you just kind of have to keep trying the different ones til you find the one that will actually affect your pain.
there is a newer one that I am going to be switching to called lyrica?this is the latest one to come down the pike.
Have you ever tried neurontin or cymbalta or gabitril?these are just some of the other options with the anti siezure meds.I would just talk with your doc about just switching to one of the others for a trial run and see if something else may give you better relief.luckily there are other options out there.everyone just doesn't always respond to a particular one the same way as the next person.
I really DO hope you can find the right meds for your pain soon. Are there any good pain clinics out there in south africa?this really would be the best place to go for the best possible treatment options.they specialize in treating pain, just pain.just a suggestion.please let me know how things go.Marcia
Just a suggestion; It's been my experience to go excercise when I feel such a feeling. While riding a handbike my butt burning goes away, for example. Swimming tends to decrease the discomfort. Try moving in some way. Good luck. Pat

Good luck shawn.try doing a bit of actual research on the various meds that are used for what appears for you,to be some form of neuropathic type of pain.i think if you just googled something like neuropathic pain treatment or neuropathic pain care, this would maybe lead you to some good pain management type of sites.
it never hurts to go into an appt with any doc armed with info about the subject you will be discussing.I almost HAVE to do this with alot of my many docs as they have never even heard of some of the more bizarre Dxs i have been "blessed" with.when you find any real good info, just print it off for your doc to read thru, but highlight the important stuff so he doesn't have to read thru a ton of unnecsecary(sp?)material.
good luck shawn and let us know how things go.Marcia
The never-ending burning (just the burning, not any of the myriad other sensations) of central pain (and other neuropathic pain syndromes) has been described, as, among many others:
feeling of having one's skin constantly being scraped off.
being doused with alcohol after being skinned.
being doused with gasoline and set on fire.
being dunked in acid.
being dragged along the highway by a moving car.
These are just a sample.

Hi
I finally got back into training (physical exercises and weight lifting) and i also cycled. It helped with the pain but, not entirely. Before going to sleep, my nephew rubbed both feet with lotion and that helped. Nonetheless, as i sit here at work, my feet are still burning but, it's not as bad as before.

so have you seen your doc yet to try and discuss new meds or some other options?just a thought here shawn, but one of the best things(a topical cream) that I ever tried for my intense burning and stinging that I have in my arm that is the central pain crap,is a cream called Prudoxin.it is Doxipin cream.I don't know why this stuff actually works but I was given this while i was in rehab after my spinal cord surgery and was at that time showing signs of CP that had actually just 'been there' when I awoke from anesthsia post op.
my physiatrist told me to just rub that cream on several times per day and it really did make a huge difference in the overall intensity of my pain and also somewhat reduced the huge hypersensitivity that also is a part of the central.
just a thought.i hope things are getting better for ya.Marcia
