Hi! Its me again with questions for my cousin C2/C3. We got the computer and the Dragon 8. We can't get it to recognize his voice, read paragraphs for 2 1/2 hours and when I am not speaking it types words all by itself, there is no noise and door is closed. Any suggestions????? Please.

kmjjdj99:

Tell us as much as you can about this new computer e.g. processor, memory, hard drive, manufacturer, antivirus, software firewall. Which version of Dragon 8 did you purchase? Is he using a microphone or a headset (include make or model) with noise cancellation? What happens when someone else goes through the Dragon training? Dragon also tests your hardware (microphone or headset) by a score or rating system before the training begins and I think anything below 15 in this part of the set up is a failure.

Addendum:
If you have a family member or friend who is a sophisticated user, then they should know to go into the "Startup" and uncheck any program that is not necessary, which will pretty much be about all of them except your antivirus, along with other security software. I recently worked on two new computers and they came preinstalled with a lot of junk. The easiest way to remove these programs is to left click on "Start," go to "Run," and type "msconfig," then click "OK" and left click on the "Startup tab." If you are unsure about unchecking these programs, then go to Sysinfo (http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php) so you know what you're removing. By the way, you are not making any permanent changes so if something doesn't work right, you can always go back and recheck that program. It is not like going into the registry and making permanent changes.

I went to the Nuance website and it looks like you get one free phone call for Dragon Tech Support if needed. I believe they are located in Florida.

Also, make sure that everything is plugged in correctly with the headset or microphone, and it is possible to get a broken mic.
