I'm not sure what you people out there deal with. At no time is there an intent to patronize (at least not willingly and if you think I am, ...please give it some time and the PM me first).
The thing is, I use File Transfer Program - FTP (or I should be!, ...my position so far has been able to sustain a personal-micro-economy and I really should stop procastinating and make the big bucks and go sailing :D ) and haven't been doing all I could. File Transfer Program (FTP) is an architecture in cyberspace in charge (de facto) of being the rules of how data is moved between two (2) peers [slap!] one is server and the other is the client. Sounds pretty erotic doesn't it? ...droool!
Anyway I needed FTP and it wouldn't work, nada, zero,...ziltch! WU_FTP Pro is not working, it won't connect, can you figure that one out huh?
So after going ballistic and calming down I checked the web and found a pretty cool forum sposored by the makers of my product. Priceless!
I joined and got almost instantaneous response to my plea for help. FTPplanet.com discussion groups (http://www.ftpplanet.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/003129.html) or
http://
www.ftpplanet.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/003129.html
had several suggestions posted which I have been checking and testing all day. I am happy to report that I got back more than I had hoped for. After I switched to WinXP, I didn't check many functions.
SP2 hurt many systems. FTP would not work.
I was taking it on faith. ...never again, never again will I attempt to trust Gates, Billy, oooh Billy boy! Then again you do have your philantropic aspect and I would immediatly suspect "it's a cover to show people I'm really cool and want to help however I can" and I could also be sooo wrong!
The suggestions also gave me back my "Create PDF from Webpage" option in Adobe Acrobat.
The kicker to this is that my laptop is also WinXP (SP2) and it had none of problems of my tower. FTP and Acrobat worked fine on the laptop.
So the FTPplanet.com folks were talking about the Window firewall and how crappy that was. Leads in that direction that didn't pan out.
When the forum (discussion group) approached the issues with Norton anti-thi, anti-that, etc. I clicked into Kaspersky's Antihacker program -- it was running and although I tried to tailor it didn't come out quite right. I ended exiting Kaspersky Antihacker and FTP, Acrobat started working.
So the ingredients of this soup:
WinXP (SP2)
Kaspersky Antihacker
ZoneAlarm Pro
Router port controls
turned this off and that on, or that off and this on. The only thing out of the equation is Kaspersky. OK got me a freebee job with them to see how to avoid the problems they cause and still benefit of their "antihacking" features.
