Here's FreeRAM XP Pro 1.52. I just found it at download.com:

http://www.download.com/FreeRAM-XP-Pro/3000-2086_4-10070530.html?tag=fave_fw

The claims are impressive:

FreeRAM XP Pro's AutoFree feature intelligently scales how much RAM is freed with your current system status, thus optimizing RAM without slowing down your computer. Additionally, FreeRAM XP Pro's unique Global Memory Compression technology frees memory instantly in a way that is completely unlike other memory managers.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried this app and, if so, what they think of it.:thinking: I don't like downloading any software I'm unfamiliar with and the claims of the site: "Safe, Trusted and Spy-Ware Free", are nice but I'm not impressed. When I tried downloading a "free" Arcade program from them it stalled while I was attempting to install it and, all on it's own, started a much longer download of a "Download Manager" which was said to be for doing some things I never bargained for when I went for the Arcade.

I can do without the "free" Arcade but this RAM manager sounds like a useful tool.

I downloaded, installed and used RAM Medic Free v1.x 7th program down (http://www.iomatic.com/) on my last computer. It probably does the same thing as FreeRAM XP Pro 1.52. Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't. I used it because I only had 512MBs of system RAM and my favorite flight sim needed about 800!

The real answer to these types of programs is to have your Operating System in good working order without a lot of junk running in the background and bad programs that refuse to give up their RAM or "leak" it.

RAM is pretty cheap these days. Add another 512MBS or more and don't worry about programs like these. Free, Adwared or even if you pay for it.

RAM Medic Free v1.x
Free up memory and increase you computers performance!

What is Ram?
RAM Stands for "Random Access Memory". The more RAM a computer has, the more data a computer can manipulate. RAM Medic allows you to free up memory giving you more RAM and better performance.

Download.com is safe. I get ad-aware and such off it. Haven't tried any RAM utilities, so i can't help you there.

I've been using it for the past 10hrs and it does seem to work. It has an "Autofree Now" option which will scan, check and free all avaiable RAM but will virtually "freeze" the OS for a few seconds while it does it.:D

So far I'm having no problems with it and will update the thread periodically when anything noteworthy develops.

When I had RAM Medic Free v1.x running in the taskbar it would try to free up the RAM and screw my combat flight sim up... it was trying to steal memory from the program/game/sim that I was running. So I just let it free up the RAM that it could before I started flying and then shut it off.

Maybe FreeRAM XP Pro 1.52 doesnt do this. I think I had RAM Medic Free v1.x set to free up RAM every ten minutes or so.

Be that as it may (BTAIM), I don't think Pinball & Centipede use up that much RAM. :D :bounce:

Probably not... but isn't that a game that comes with WinXP... bloatware... Pinball MS-style is probably 2GBs!!!

It's the one I've played forever, though. Others that I've downloaded are crowed w oversized bumpers, etc and just don't seem as complex, i.e. fun.

I downloaded the program and had no problems with program conflicts or other issues. I found that it did a good job sitting on my toolbar reflecting the amount of available memory. It is convenient and the price is right.

There are a lot of other memory optimization programs available such as checkit diagnostics that comes with Norton Systemswork. The problem with this program is that it does not automatically optimize the memory as Freeram does.

Thanks for checking it, Mike.

As I've used it for the past few days, I'm liking it more all the time. My earlier comment that it "virtually freezes the OS" was wrong. I've been using it while opening files and images :D in my newsreader and you can actually see significant increases in "launch" speed as the "AutoFree Now" from the toolbar is used. And as you said, the price is right.
