i saw these in B&H photo. they are relatively cheap about $80, they should be string enough to hang a vese mounted imac or lcd monitors . with a super clamp.
they make all kinds of modular attachment so everything from binoculars to shelves

it can be for a camera , hold lights, hold computers use two to hold glass shelves.
it may be strong enough to hold two 20 wide panel LCD monitors , i like the ability to change my monitor position. super clamps and accessories are the may you attack stuff to it.
i agree stripper pole would be better use

I have a pole similar to that but it has a couple of steel arms on it that a piece of glass or wood can be put across to form a shelf. It was designed as a TV stand. Mine is spring-loaded (ceiling to floor) and I used it for a couple years to hold a small 13 inch TV set close to my bed. I don't think it could safely hold much more than a small TV. I've since upgraded to a larger TV so the pole has now been relocated to the garage along with all the other junk I've accumulated over the years.

what do you mean? ;)
actually i haven't bought one yet. i have been looking for cheap ways to mount vesa monitors.
bob this pole is made for mounting professional lighting and camera, it is a lot stronger than this spring loaded small TV stands. the guy at b&h said he has seen them used with a 4 x8 piece of plywood attached.
with the super clamp versatility they could be used to hold a book for reading in bed, attach lights to .
as soon as i figure out how to get it home on the train i am going to buy a couple

I'm about to go Hi Def and have been looking at flat LCD TV monitors and the different ways to mount them. They have mounting hardware that you can suspend from the ceiling but I'm probably gonna go with a swivel wall mount like a Peerless Silver Articulating Wall Mount.

Here are several others (http://www.bizrate.com/buy/browse__cat_id--11100809.html). I currently have a 36" Sony CRT that's in the corner of my bedroom. When I first got it, it seemed so big and bright for the size bedroom it was in but after time I got used to it. I wanna get a Hi-Def 32" LCD but have it closer to my bed. And have the angle adjustable. I need to wear glasses so I have to experiment to get the distance just right so my glasses will focus properly at that distance. I now have 3 pairs of glasses. Reading, Computer and for seeing at a distance. I bet I'll be getting a fourth pair for TV watching next!
