A while back I wrote a post outlining my desire to get into video editing etc.
Well ,I went and bought a camera ( Sony hdr hc1 if anyone's interested) and now I have to decide how I am going to go about editing.
Despite my admitted lack of experience with computers generally ,the mac g5 seem to have the reputation as being the ideal machine for this pursuit ( I'd also like to record music too).
Anyway ,I was just about to roll down to the store and fork out for a g5 when all this buzz started about the new pentium macs.
Maybe someone can give me a simple explanation on why/why not a pentium mac is a better machine for what I want to do.
Thanks

g5 would work fine, its has all the bugs worked out of it.
are you planning on getting a g5 dual processor tower?

If you are serious about doing video editing at this time, then I would recommend against the new Intel Macs. Apple is in a transition phase and I received this email from a friend who is a dye-in-the-wool Mac user for 20 years: "Basically, since all the current Intel processors in Macs will be changed by fall/winter this year, these current Apple computers are really just interim models."

If you can wait, then buy the Intel Macs when the "Merom" for mobile computers, "Conroe" for desktop computers is released. The name of Macs new OS is Leopard. Just do a Google search for more information on these chips, along with the operating system.

If you can't wait and you have the money, then go with the Power Mac G5 (http://www.apple.com/powermac/).

costco has the g5 imacs at a reasonable price too, they are becoming scarcer.
i am in the same boat, the intel mac thing has made me stop and rethink everything
