I was using the AVG free antivirus but evidently must have gotten a virus. I swapped over to the Panda antivirus program and it found 16 viruses or problems on the computer and corrected those. Now I have a problem that every time I restart the computer I cannot connect to the Internet unless I shut down the antivirus program.
It doesn't matter which antivirus program I am using, I cannot connect to the Internet with one running. Panda has not been too quick to answer my e-mails this morning. Has anyone else had this kind of trouble before? As soon as I shut down the antivirus program I can connect to the Internet immediately.

sounds like yu removed something bad. Your "prblem" panda removed might have been spyware and not a virus. Try a sytem restore... And find out what it was removing. Sometimes the removal of problems cause more issuses.

The same thing was happening when I was using the other antivirus program. So I really don't think it was any thing panda created. We were thinking or hoping that it was just a bad update that was causing a conflict on the computer so that it is why we uninstalled AVG and installed Panda to say if that would correct the problem. It didn't.

Sounds to me like you may have downloaded a virus. It doesn't want you to have protection while on the internet so they can view passwords, and other personal information. There are people who can count the key strokes you are taking and determine what you type.
A family member of mine works as a computer programmer and says that McAfee Antivirus is the best out there. You do have to pay for the service. I think I payed $75.00 for the year.
I just use the Yahoo Spyware. I downloaded it for free and have it on my toolbar. I scan with Spyware everytime before shutting down my computer.

Which one? I google Yahoo Spyware and get the Yahoo homepage but a big list of spywares is offered.:agog::confused::thinking:

I believe you have to download the Yahoo toolbar in order to be able to use the Yahoo anti-spyware program. It is bundled with the toolbar not a stand-alone program.

Shit; it doesn't support Firefox "my browser".
Hello Heath,
I've been using the Panda Titanium Antivirus starting with 2005 and now Panda Titanium Antivirus + Antispyware 2006 for over a year. I was really impressed with the Antispyware killer in the 2005 version, but I did have install issues on more than one occasion. The Panda 2006 found a small piece of the free AVG and it would not install. I had to reinstall AVG and then uninstall it before I was able to install Panda 2006. I still think it's a good AV, but I believe it is on its way to bloatware and I'm thinking about trying NOD32.
You can check out your antivirus program by visiting the independent Virus Bulletin (http://www.virusbtn.com/index).
By the way, Panda does bury their Tech support, so give this email address a try: techsupport@pandasecurity.com

Okay, I think I have found the problem. When ever I turn off the firewall protection on the Panda Antivirus I'm able to connect to the Internet with no problem. After contacting panda support and reconfiguring Panda's firewall I'm still unable to connect to the Internet as long as the firewall is enabled.
They say there is probably a conflict between the old firewall always using (Zone Alarm) and Panda. That even though I uninstalled the old firewall that there is probably some files or registry entries that still remain. I have never fooled with registry very much so I'm not sure how to look up or find these remaining files.
Is there a program that would allow me to look up the zone alarm and help me completely eradicate the zone alarm files from my computer?

Heath, sorry for your problems buddy. Only sarcasm from me here, ...we can thank our buddy Billy for this monstruosity called WinHell. No such problems in OS/2, Linux, MacOS -- you just throw stuff into the garbage and it's gone.
It's just his schizo attitude that had him design a registry that is so (IMO) unnecessarily complex.
I'm using Kaspersky and if you check leschinsky's call for help you may find some other pearls of wisdom.
Cheers!

Try this http://www.systweak.com/asov2/ for a reg cleaner with a 30 day trial. Zone Alarms a great firewall but causes truckloads of problems when uninstalled, especially the trial version

Heath, I think you would be better off not using the Panda Firewall and turning on the Windows XP built-in firewall. That is what I am doing with my computers and I'm not having any problems/conflicts.

McAfee, Norton AND AVG all suck. HUGE resource hogs and I repair machines REGULARLY that are infected while running these worthless thAAngz.
If you want to PAY money for some strange reason, go with Trend Micro PC-cillin. Otherwise, get the free Avast Home edition. Set up properly, you WON'T get an infection.
Start using Opera for your browser and mail client.
If you TRULY want to be smart and spend ZERO to use your computer 100% hassle free... go with a distrubution of Linux.
A complete operating system AND all the software you need. FREE.
Virii/Trojans/etc. ONLY exist in the wonderful world of MICROSOFT products.
NOWHERE ELSE.
You can download a FREE live cd or dvd (I suggest DVD) of Linux, burn it to disc, enable boot from cd in your bios and run it instantly without TOUCHING your present windows installation. It runs from cd/dvd in memory, not using a hard disc. Learn to use it in your spare time and feel SAFE on your computer for the first time.
There is a version I run from a 1GB flash drive/mp3 player/radio/recorder. It's called SLAX. It has all the normal software and some tools I threw in for repairing windows computers. http://www.slax.org/
Knoppix is a SUPER live linux distro on cd that was never intended to be loaded on your hard disk. I have used it for years as a live cd to repair windows computers. It has a SLEW of software bundled with it. http://www.knoppix.net/
Ubuntu has become a favorite amongst new Linux users for it's ease of use. It also is a live cd/dvd. I suggest getting the dvd version. You will want to install it on your hard drive after you use it for a while from live dvd. I'll guarantee it.
Suse is a favorite distro of mine, http://software.opensuse.org/
When you decide to load linux on your hard drive at some point, use GParted to resize your windows partion to make room on your hard drive for linux. It's on almost every distro.
If anyone needs help, shout, there are a zillion of us who will help you from the transition to carefree, hassle free, FREE computing. You'll be glad you did.

Did you go to add/remove programs and remove Zone Alarm. I will update and install Avast when I go back to work and install AVG just to see the difference.
