I currently work in insurance and finance, but since my injury 3 years ago I've grown very fond of computers. I'd love to work in some fashion in the computer world... particularly graphic and website design.

I'm wondering:

What jobs are available? Does it require college level studies? Can you make money doing this stuff?! If so, how?

Thanks, in advance.

Spaceboy, web design doesn't require college education, just get a portfolio of all the webpages you've done for fun or for people. Then if the employer asks, well what do you know, you can show him what you know.

But usually your going to have to know alot more than just HTML. I recommend learning some PHP/mySQL as well. Tons of books out there on it.

When you said "web design" are you talking about for just local peoplee or are you trying to make some good money with it and try to get businesses to let you devlope websites for them? If its the latter case, then your going to have some competition.

So if you want $$$ as well as enjoying a job in the computer field. I'd recommend going into hardware or software or both.
Majors could be:
Software ENgineering
Computer Science
Mangement Information Systems (MIS)
Computer Engineering
and a million others.

All of these majors can also do web design as well as alot of other things, like programming/hardware design. MIS majors/Software Engineers also have a good background on how business works. Computer Science is mainly alot of theoretical stuff but you end up usually as a programmer but could go in any direction.
