A member posted that no chronic spinal cord had ever been repaired in an animal model to his knowledge. Is this true? Surely not if the china sci net is comitting to clinical trials this year? Surely it has been proven therefore needs now to be replicated in trials for humans? Are my family wrong to expect big things from these trials?
Lastly, my sister gets disheartened when all these people say its still decades away - what would you say to them?
Sorry if i seem impertinent
Thanks
i think you missed this question, hope you can help
thanks

Ads,
It is not true that no chronic spinal cord injury model has ever been repaired. There are some studies that show beneficial effects but it depends on what one calls "chronic" and the quality of the paper, the injury model, and whether or not the data has been replicated. In fact, there was a recent study using bone marrow cells that shows beneficial effects of bone marrow transplants in spinal cord injury. We are doing chronic spinal cord injury experiments at Rutgers and I must say that we have not yet seen beneficial effects of many of the therapies that have been reported by others.
Wise.
